“Sins of a Solar Empire II” is more than capable of standing on its own even without a proper campaign. It already has great features, more depth than you can imagine and quality of life features that makes it very hard for me to get back to “Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion”. I know that I’ll jump back into the game, play more matches against the AI, check out mods and maps created by the community and perhaps annoy a couple of friends so we can set a match during a weekend. Will we be friends after 4 to 8 hours of multiple skirmishes? Only time will tell. 2024 has been one heck of a rollercoaster ride for strategy fans. Botched releases, broken promises and lackluster games. After playing “Sins of a Solar Empire II” I have only one thing to say: we are so back.
Mystery, drama, flirting, and a lot of backstage stress. “The Crush House” embraces the idea of “15 minutes of fame” and how easy it for it to crumble. A very interesting — perhaps almost unique look into one of the most dominant TV genre in the past 20 years.

“Noreya: The Gold Project” is almost at odds with itself when it comes to be or not to be a metroidvania. Although shorter than most games in the genre – which is a blessing nowadays – Dreamirl prioritized platforming and visuals over a more in-depth combat system. It’s a must for those who wants to enjoy some fantastic visuals, but unremarkable other than that.

“Dynasties” completely revamps “Total War: Pharaoh” in such ways that it feels like an entire new game. Major improvements on Diplomacy, combat, a new and much bigger map that spans the entire Aegean are the tip of the iceberg. Creative Assembly turned the boat around and, to me, it established a new standard for the Total War franchise.

I want to believe that Blackbird Interactive will turn this (mother)ship around; that they’ll add more maps, new factions and mechanics like stated in their 2024-2025 roadmap. But I can’t, I’m sorry.
“Forges of Corruption” takes the best part of “Boltgun” and fits into a fantastic 5 mission campaign. Auroch Digital showcases that it learned a lot from the main campaign with missions that have better pacing, more enemy variety and verticality. I’m eagerly waiting for “Boltgun 2”

“The Rogue Prince of Persia” already shows an impressive foundation with a good variety of moves, cool enemies and a fantastic progression that kept me wanting for more. “Evil Empire” has a gem on its hands, and I can’t wait to see it even more polished.

Odd Meter’s debut game is an odd one, it will either strongly resonate with you, or you will strongly dislike it. It’s a game about compassion, hate, understanding yourself and other and amongst all things, not judging at first glance. Taking these aspects into reality is the hard part.

Although Malakai Makaisson steals the spotlight, Thrones of Decay is a much needed course correction in terms of content, replayability and depth, and a great expansion to the already wonderful Total War: Warhammer III.

Although its combat leaves a bit to be desired, “Another Crab’s Treasure” world, characters and very funny storytelling and puns more than make up for it. It’s absolutely time for crab and you’re going to have a great time with it.

“Appeal” had one goal with “Outcast: A New Beginning”, go back to the wonderful world of Adelpha and do proper justice to it after its debut in 1999. The game design might feel outdated and its open world style does bring a bit of fatigue, but for every let down, there’s a fantastic sci-fi game underneath it. A must have for “Outcast” fans.

Balatro is a fantastic showcase of how to create complexity by establishing a simple ruleset and building on it. LocalThunk’s debut title turns the simplest of poker hands something magical with modifiers and special cards and jokers. At the same time, it pushes the player to try new strategies with its bosses and to skip blinds for a bigger reward. I felt like I barely scratched its surface and I still yearn for more. Get ready to devote all your free time to it and watch your “perfect” strategy fall apart just to try it again and again. A must have for poker, deckbuilder and strategy fans.

“Islands of Insight” looks and feels like an “all you can eat” buffet of puzzle games that ranges from logic puzzles to hidden objects. It’s open-ended structure leans into a very chill experience that can provide challenge when you want it. But its online requirement and the lack of local saves undermines what it should’ve been a title I expected to play for months to come.

The biggest issue with “Granblue Fantasy: Relink” is its not-so-great camera, but that’s a small price to play in an RPG so full of amazing setpieces, well designed characters (from a mechanics standpoint), amazing quests and a very solid campaign. A fantastic entry to the “Granblue” franchise and a must play even if you never heard about it before.

While its main “carrer mode” is more interative than I expected, “House Flipper 2” shines through its fantastic and engaging sandbox mode.

In its remastered form, Nightdive Studios delivers the “Turok 3” we deserved to play all these years. Attention to detail and better level integration and coherency turns one of the late Nintendo 64 titles into the best one in the trilogy.

Although with fantastic visuals and a very much promising setting, “Achilles: Legends Untold” stumbles hard to fulfill its ambitions due to a very slow and clunky combat system.

You will find one of the most fascinating, rewarding and in-depth souls like out there. Lords of the Fallen deserves to sit next to some of the genre best, such as NioH 2, Lies of P and so many others. It brings its own flavor to the table, even if it sometimes tastes sour. I’m more than sure that I will be back to it sooner rather than later. Mournstead is calling me, and I already have many planned builds to tweak with.
Cities: Skylines 2 is an ambitious sequel that manages to both implement amazing simulations systems while at the same time do little with them. It fails to recapture the magic of the original and the performance issues are a huge letdown. Maybe it will become the “ultimate city builder”, but that day is still far away.

“Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged” is exactly what I expect from a sequel: better mechanics, more variety and depth. Milestone delivers that packaged with one of the best arcade racers of 2023. Definitely a must have whether you like Hot Wheels or not.
