In summary, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 is pretty much a poorly done remake of THPS 2. In the year 2000, this game was innovative, fun and an absolute delight to play. But this is 2015. There should be dramatic changes in the gameplay, in the challenge, in everything! To replicate a game that is older than my nephew and to have it come out on a new generation console with bugs? I'm kind of surprised someone actually even took credit for this game.

A well-done mode doesn't make up for the rest of the shoddy work. Couple everything with what may be the absolute worst commentating I've ever heard, and you can't even get too deep into your career mode before you want to smash the controller off of the wall.

Basically, if you have the games already, there's nothing new here for you. If you don't have them already, there's still nothing here for you.

Luckily, Double Tap itself was much better than its game counterpart. Based on historical examples, this isn’t the first time nor will it be the last time we can make that statement.

Canu Arts decided to utilize the fixed camera to bring about that sense of dread which would accompany exploration in the early Resident Evil games, but it’s that same fixed camera that is going to kill you the most.

When all is said and done, DOA 5 ends up being a great looking, middle of the road fighter that still heavily relies on absurd female characters in revealing outfits to sell copies.

There are people who will enjoy the dedication to making Way of the Hunter an ultra-realistic hunting simulation. Though I fear those people will instead be spending their days actually hunting. If you play video games to get some immersive feel and still have fun doing that thing you wouldn’t normally do in real life, you might not be as appreciative of the dedication to realism. While I fell into the latter camp, I know there are certainly people in the former camp. You’ll have to decide for yourself if Way of the Hunter is for you.

All in all, Heavy Fire: Red Shadow is a game that is easy to overlook and doesn’t really give you much reason not to. There’s fun to be had and it’s an easy way to waste a half hour, but that’s really all you’ll be doing.

55 / 100 - Fragments of Him

In the end, Fragments of Him is a well thought out story that ultimately is undone by its gameplay choices.

In the end, Kerbal Space Program: Enhanced Edition is potentially the type of game I could definitely lose myself in. The amount of options to build your craft, the variety of things you have to do to maintain your space program, the charming Kerbs you blast into a million pieces, and the feeling of accomplishment when you reach a new milestone are the kinds of things I look for in a simulation.

For as much as that sense of nostalgia is great, video games have come a long way since then and I’ve become accustomed to a certain playstyle. Being so fully integrated back into an old style of game, as I said earlier, reminds me of why I’m thankful for how far games have come. Outbreak: Endless Nights does everything it sets out to and while I enjoyed some dungeon crawling and shooting zombies in the face for a little while, I’m still going to go back to my very full game library… I have far too much to catch up on to spend too much time in 2002.

For as much time as I'd like to continue to sink into this game, trying to master the controls that seem to be designed to fight you was a lesson in futility which I don't hope to repeat any time soon.

Overall, Guns of Icarus: Alliance is a steampunk entry into the battle royale gauntlet that has some seriously stiff competition and while it brings a unique spin to the genre, there's not enough to make it a real threat to the genre.

The controls are relatively simple, the combo, parry, and evade are easy enough to execute and the missions have a good difficulty curve…

60 / 100 - Munin
Jun 27, 2014

Overall, Munin falls into a middle of the road game for me. While the artwork, music and story were strong, the actual gameplay fluctuated between too easy and way too hard far too frequently, and the controls were unreliable enough to add to the difficulty. If you're good at spatial recognition and are interested in a cheap (it's currently on sale on Steam) puzzler that you will spend a fair bit of time on and is nice to look at, pick it up. If you're not (like me) and you're looking for something a little easier, look elsewhere.

While you will enjoy playing Bladestorm, it ultimately ends up being an previously released game that's getting a new-gen "fresh coat of paint" release with a limited update that, while not being a nightmare, is definitely not a dream.

65 / 100 - Clid the Snail
Sep 13, 2021

In the end, I am a fan of where Weird Beluga aimed but not as much as where they landed. While the world that Clid resides in is full and realized, its characters unique, its level design excellent, and its overall tone unexpectedly great, the gameplay itself, not plague fuelled slugs, seems to be the biggest deterrent Clid needs to overcome. No matter how Weird Beluga wants to tackle this, whether it be leave it as it is or patch it, they still stand as very innovative and exciting developers. As for the gamer, if you think I’m just weak and you can do better managing the punishing level of gameplay, you should definitely pick this up. Otherwise, maybe see what they do moving forward before you dive into this strange and unique foray into gaming.

really wished that all the things that Citizens of Space does well weren’t attached to a game that is so… in your face. It borders on obnoxious but keeps the annoying line repeats and the length of time to get anywhere just under the bar of annoying. It did, however, prevent me from being able to play for a big chunk of time and it sucked a lot of the fun out of the well-done aspects of the game.
