One Piece: Grand Cruise is diabolically short, bereft of almost any interaction from the player's side, painfully repetitive, and a wholly uninspired effort that seems more interested in luring in its most ardent fans rather than making a competent game.

But even after all my criticisms with the game, the ending was both surprising and fitting. I won't spoil it, but what I will say is that it reminded me of why I love this franchise so dearly and I would be lying if I said that I didn't get a little emotional. It doesn't stop there though, as Assassin's Creed Rogue is full of small surprises for long-time fans that are better left explored. If anything can be taken from the release of Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered, it is that the series has come a long way in a short period of time. Unfortunately, Assassin's Creed Rogue is on the wrong side of that timeline.

4.5 / 10.0 - Titan Quest
Mar 29, 2018

The best similitude I can make regarding the remastered version of Titan Quest is that of a game that attempts to sneak into an era that has long passed it by. While a minimal amount of enjoyment can be had listening to the wayfarers and tradesmen across the many worlds that the hero visits, there are too many problems that stem from the game's now ancient design. While titles like Shadow of the Colossus can confidently hold their own in a decade that they were not intended for, it may be a bittersweet sign of the swift progression in the industry that most titles are just not good enough anymore.

4.5 / 10.0 - Perception
Jun 15, 2017

Almost all of Perception's issues could be fixed with slight tweaks to the game's systems and narrative moments. Instead, it's a false mirage of an excellent game that vanishes almost immediately, turning into more of what we've already seen in the horror genre.

What's worse is that the problems are also of a technical nature.

The quests in the last third of the game are definitely the pick of the lot, although it's paired with being the most technically poor.

5 / 10 - White Night
Mar 17, 2015

This is not the game survival horror purists have been waiting for and not one I can recommend even with its positives. Developer Osome Studios does have the chance to clean up White Night's fundamental design structures and make it more accessible instead of down right annoying in a potential sequel I doubt we will see come to fruition.

5 / 10.0 - ELEX
Oct 16, 2017

There's a lot of fun to be had in ELEX at higher levels, but the game opens far too slowly and spreads itself out too thin to make any sort of impact. It's a game that begs to be smaller in scope, and richer in depth. And while its animations and visuals are mostly uninspiring, there are some real moments of beauty that are found in its caves and crevasses if you choose to explore the land of Edan.

5 / 10.0 - Deformers
Apr 24, 2017

But those fleeting moments of fun are still fun all the same, and I really don't believe Deformers is a bad game. Frustrated as I was during a few Form Ball matches, I was still invested and focused on them, and prancing through a few opponents to pop the ball into an empty goal is an incredibly satisfying feeling. So is smashing into another Form and sending their soon to be carcass miles into the air will never get old, but these moments are exceptions to the rule. Deformers has a broken and inconsistent core, and I can't fathom how any future patch or update can change that.

50 / 100 - Animal Force

If you're curious to see how the tower-defense genre converts over to a virtual reality setting, Animal Force is worth the purchase.

Reservoir Dogs: Bloody Days is a game with sky high potential that is crushed by its lazy execution.

Even with its eye-catching art and a bubbly soundtrack, it needs a deeper combat system in what tools you are given, mainly in its lack of a parry function

5.5 / 10.0 - Black Mirror
Nov 27, 2017

That is simply the best way to describe the game—it just doesn't work. Besides a clever story that reveals itself every so often and an eerie atmosphere that is perfect for this type of game, Black Mirror is a missed opportunity to truly modernize the 2003 original. I feel like the game hasn't learned anything from the likes of Tales From The Borderlands or Life Is Strange in the same way that Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier has. It feels like a game that is purposefully ignoring its competition in an era where Andy Serkis and other filmmakers have made it a point to get into the story-focused, adventure game genre. Black Mirror, unlike the Netflix show with the same name, refuses to trek into the future, instead resulting in a game that feels stuck in the past.

5.5 / 10.0 - Raid: World War II
Oct 16, 2017

But even with all its flaws, major and minor, the game is filled with moments of hilarity and high tension. Playing alone or with friends, the simplistic mission design that always has you sneaking about or sprinting for your life is a blast to take part in. There's a deluge of customization options that is only matched by the Payday games and the humor is surprisingly consistent. RAID: World War II can be frustrating at times, but there's a lot of fun to be had with friends.

5.5 / 10.0 - Morphite
Sep 19, 2017

Side missions are thrown on top for good measure, but their implementation is just as simple as every other aspect of the game. There's nothing to see and not much but more chunks to gain. Morphite is exhausting in its meandering loop of planet-hopping, and it doesn't work hard enough to keep the players' interest. Even with its hodgepodge of tiny planets, the game may have done better to shrink its size to an even greater degree and focus on that which makes up the majority of the experience, away from the silly jokes and entertaining banter of Myrah and Kitcat.

5.5 / 10.0 - Get Even
Jun 26, 2017

Get Even is almost afraid of what it could have been, settling for a more traditional horror experience instead of becoming what it really wants to be. The genre has been healthy in recent months, but a wildly different approach is always welcome and Get Even only accomplishes that in fleeting moments.
