Despite a boring start with repetitive missions - that expose most of its technical and narrative problems - , Days Gone is a very special game. I feel like the more I played, the more I wanted to explore the dangerous world it has to offer and the more I wanted to follow Deacon's emotional journey.

Devil May Cry 5 looks, plays and sounds as pitch-perfect as its bombastic soundtrack. It nails pretty much everything in every department. The combat is super satisfying, with a deep list of skills, abilities and attacks; the story is cheesy but engaging and full of twists; and it is one of the most visually impressive games of this year so far.

Codemasters is back at it again. After an almost experiment in a dedicated simulation game, DiRT Rally 2.0 stands on its own as a great spin-off game from the more arcade DiRT series. Every turn feels dangerous and every second counts, DiRT Rally 2.0 is authentic and visceral, but only for the most enthusiastic players.

With more open spaces to explore and out of the claustrophobic ruins of Moscow, Metro Exodus goes into an interesting direction showing a classic post-apocalyptic world more familiar to the fans of this genre. It is, without surprises, survival horror in its pure state. The remake of Resident Evil 2 is everything the fans would hope for a current-gen RE. It takes all the core concepts of the original and twists them with a new fresh take and some mechanics from the also excellent Resident Evil 7. Lots of jump scares, great action, stunning visuals and a lot of content to explore and replay.

Fallout 76 is the answer to a question that now would be great if unanswered: “What if Fallout but with multiplayer?” Unfortunately, this experience is a broken mess, full of technical problems, lack of direction, boring and repetitive quests, and some archaic design choices that don’t work very well in a shared environment.

There was a time when V-Rally was the hottest rally game in town. This new attempt of pulling the nostalgic strings only works by its name’s sake, with a game without identity, poor in content, buggy and with strange physics that makes the gameplay inconsistent and unpredictable.

Detroit: Become Human feels like the best Quantic Dream has ever put in all of their games. It is indeed an interactive movie, with quick time events as dialogue choices, but at every scene it makes us feel on the edge of our seat, hoping for the best of this cast of robotic characters and the world they live in.

Half-sequel, half-reboot. The return of Kratos comes with a new sidekick, in a new setting, in a new generation and with a new perspective. It’s one of the riskiest reboots in recent history for an high caliber franchise, full of ambition, that sets a new standard in narrative and action games. Without any doubt, one of the best games of the generation.
