Instead, all that Risen 3 offers is a decidedly average RPG which leaves behind the bitter taste of missed opportunities and bad rum..

If you've just gone to see Age of Extinction and really want to play an awesome Transformers game, High Moon's past efforts are all you should even consider going for. Leave this pile of scrap out to rust until someone comes along to polish the franchise up again.

2 / 5.0 - Infinity Runner
Jul 19, 2014

There's the basis here for a great little game which differentiates itself from the norm, but at nearly every turn it deviates from this path and into a never ending run of mediocrity.

Sure Bread has a personality. I am Bread proves that perfectly.

3 / 5.0 - Roundabout
Sep 30, 2014

On the same note getting the best experience out of Roundabout is exactly the same as getting a good mouthful of popcorn. Dipping your hand deep into the bag doesn't always lead to something great. Taking a handful from the top of its exposed delights is without a doubt the best way to enjoy yourself in a game which delights trying – and often succeeding – in drawing a big smile across your face.

Or just play the game in short bursts. Taking more than two hours with Lichdom: Battlemage turns it into an ill-advised shotgun wedding.

3 / 5.0 - Destiny
Sep 12, 2014

It will still eat up your social life and spit you out. It is almost worth purchasing Destiny to feel just how good a Generation 8 shooter could feel.

In closing, Styx: Master of Shadows is (read this in your best Yogi voice) slightly better than your average game . Problems can be frustratingly frequent just as moments of brilliance can fill an evening with a controller in your hand.

In all of my time with the game I felt there was something missing which Lords of the Fallen was just waiting to give and make the whole experience worth it. Having finished my first play through and being a fair way through my second, I'm still waiting. I worry that I'll be waiting forever.

3 / 5.0 - Hand of Fate
Feb 17, 2015

Hand of Fate has been made to appeal to many players quickly, and that it does. The only concern that sticks between your teeth is one that this desire to make people feel like their being forced to work hard without actually pulling any work out of them will hamper Hand of Fate's scale for replayability.

4 / 5.0 - Velocibox
Sep 20, 2014

Several people in the community have likened Velocibox to Terry Cavanagh's Super Hexagon and in all fairness, the comparison is justified. The game has a nearly magical power to not only heighten your senses but mold them into powerful tools, all the while eating up time like a stealthy hamster.

If Homeworld Remastered Collection were to be released now as a totally new title rather than a classic game with a polished sheen, it would be a complete revolution in strategy gaming. As it is now, Homeworld 1 & 2 stand up incredibly well to their modern contemporaries thanks to a little elbow grease and a lot of fiddling.

Sid Meier's Starships does away with all of the research tree and diplomatic hard work that often comes with a 4X title, replacing them with some brilliant turn-based strategy combat and just enough world conquering to keep any evil genius happy.

4 / 5.0 - Grey Goo

Grey Goo is a symphony of strategy games. The rhythm of base building roots your spine with the amazing soundtrack and visuals providing a solid melody from the wind instruments.

4 / 5.0 - Lethal League

There's a good reason why Lethal League was featured in the EVO 2014 showcase and other competitive gaming events. While there is a lack of variety there is no lack of fun.

4 / 5.0 - Convoy
Apr 25, 2015

Whether you end comes in 15 minutes or 2 hours, Convoy lets you tell your own story of hardship on the uncaring tarmac of this turbulent world. Whether you face off against a clandestine corporation or pistol-waving loon, your own story has the timeless value that any anecdote can carry.

Let's be honest here too. In a world full of jump packs and laser guns with drones zipping around overhead, its actually hard not to enjoy Sledgehammers latest entry into the series without a smile stretched across your face.

4 / 5.0 - Evolve

That is of course, if the community remains active. Reviewing games that focus themselves so centrally on a mutliplayer environment is difficult.
