Homura Hime isn't a perfect game, and it doesn't really even try to be—which, in its own peculiar way, makes it endearing. It has its flaws, whether it’s the story, which sometimes veers into over-the-top anime drama; the upgrade system, which isn’t always perfectly balanced; or moments when the screen turns into such a colorful explosion of effects that you’re more guessing what’s happening than actually in full control. On the other hand, though, it offers something that’s hard to overlook. Raw energy, a distinctive style, and above all, a fun, fast-paced, and addictive combat system that pushes you to improve. It’s exactly the kind of game that can frustrate you because you know you died due to your own mistake, but at the same time, it compels you to immediately hit “retry” and dive right back in. And that’s often a sign that something is working as it should. With this title, Crimson Dusk has shown that they have both the talent and the courage to experiment, and even though their first major project isn’t flawless, it’s definitely worth checking out. If you like fast-paced action games, a challenge, and a distinctive anime aesthetic, Homura Hime has a lot to offer—you just have to be prepared for the fact that it’ll really put you through your paces at times. But that’s where its greatest charm lies.

The Lord of the Rings Online is an exceptional MMORPG, primarily due to its atmosphere and respect for Tolkien’s world. It doesn’t offer the most cutting-edge graphics or the fastest-paced action, but it rewards its players with a rich story, a vast world, and a sense of true adventure. Thanks to its free-to-play model, it’s also very accessible to newcomers, who can enjoy the game for hours on end without having to pay. However, its biggest weaknesses are its outdated technical elements and an occasionally complicated microtransaction system. Still, it’s a game with soul that can captivate fans of fantasy and Tolkien’s work in particular.

Crisol: Theater of Idols is a horror game that really tries to stand out from the crowd, and thanks to the idea of using your own blood as ammunition, it manages to do so quite convincingly. It’s not entirely perfect, though—at times the game is a bit too easy, some battles aren’t exactly nerve-wracking, and the story comes across as mysterious in places mainly because it doesn’t really explain much. On the other hand, it has a great atmosphere, original ideas, and a visual style you’ll remember. If you like horror games that experiment with new mechanics and aren’t afraid to be a little weird, Crisol is definitely worth a try. And most importantly, remember one key rule while playing: you’ll never run out of ammo here… because you are the ammo.

The shift from classic item-hunting to more logic-based puzzles feels refreshing and gives the game greater depth. At the same time, however, the game suffers from a confusing progression and occasional moments when you don’t know which way to go. While there is a map, it doesn’t always provide enough guidance. Although the Czech translation is significantly better than in the first installment, inaccuracies still crop up, which can be confusing when solving certain tasks.

A tremendous amount of work is evident, and some aspects of the game (particularly the atmosphere, sound design, and environments) showcase real talent and potential. However, when you look at how the game behaves when interacting with objects, how enemies move, or how often you have to deal with bugs and glitches, it becomes clear that the overall experience isn’t as smooth and seamless as it needs to be to live up to its ambitions. If you’re looking for a powerful, atmospheric horror experience and are willing to overlook technical shortcomings, The 9th Charnel may captivate you at certain moments. But if you’re expecting a balanced, smooth, and mechanically precise survival game full of intelligent enemies and complex mechanics, this title will likely disappoint you. Fear the Timeloop is definitely an interesting survival horror game that, while it may not look like a big-budget title, manages to deliver a powerful experience. Its greatest strength is its original take on the time loop. Every death isn’t a failure, but another step toward understanding the situation. Of course, the game isn’t without its flaws. At times, it feels technically rough around the edges, and some mechanics could use more refinement. Still, it succeeds in creating a suspenseful atmosphere and keeping you on the edge of your seat. Another strength is the gradual unfolding of the story, which motivates you to keep going. If you enjoy games that make you think, plan, and try new approaches, Fear the Timeloop might be a pleasant surprise for you.
