All it takes is an analog stick and a single action button to let yourself be swept away by a breathtaking, enchanting world. And this journey is an artistic experience. Moreover, it’s not just an artistic experience—it’s also a gaming experience. As a result, you’ll see Cocoon featured in polls for the best indie video game—and perhaps even the best video game overall—of 2023.

If your kids are just starting to play video games and you’d like to share this world with them, Disney Illusion Island is a good choice. It’s certainly not the best cooperative game currently available on consoles, but it’s cheaper than Nintendo’s Switch exclusives, so you’ll still have enough left over for ice cream.

In this adventure game, players can experience the story of two friends and their newfound puppy in an interactive format. The beautifully rendered environment, which blends the colors of trees and apartment buildings, is very easy to play and is suitable for both complete beginners and fans of small indie games—games that, rather than being a source of stress, serve as a place to unwind.

Iris and the Giant is a beautiful, charming, and melancholic game that combines RPG and card strategy elements in a magical setting. It takes players into the mind of a young girl suffering from depression, where every gambler faces a variety of battles against inner demons and a host of cleverly interwoven game mechanics.

Risen is a polished RPG that offers plenty of gameplay. Although it’s an older game, it still manages to captivate players today, and perhaps its old-school style is what sparks nostalgia and makes you want to return to it even years later. The gameplay stumbles from time to time, but if you arm yourself with patience, it will provide you with an enjoyable gaming experience.

A WAY OUT may be linear, but you’ll have a great time playing it with a friend for seven hours. In my opinion, the full price is a bit steep considering the playtime. You won’t be able to go back or veer off course, but on the other hand, the story will draw you in far more than the gameplay itself. At the same time, you’ll have to actively communicate with your co-op partner, which is definitely a nice addition to the game for some.

Generally, this installment is considered one of the best games in the Kirby franchise and is suitable for both loyal fans and players who haven’t yet had the chance to experience the world of our favorite pink ball. Ghost of Tsushima is a polished game with a compelling story, stunning visuals, and engaging mechanics. Its atmosphere will immediately draw you in. Its main strength lies in the ability to choose your own fighting style and its rich combat system, though toward the end, it may not be as challenging for some players.

It’s been a long time since I’ve had this much fun and laughter playing a co-op game, both because of my own clumsiness and the various pranks you can pull while playing. I think It Takes Two was rightfully named Game of the Year, as the list of awards it’s won speaks for itself. So if you have the time and a suitable partner, I highly recommend this game!

No Man's Sky is a truly unique game, unrivaled in both scale and complexity. If I had to find a synonym to describe this title, it would be the phoenix. Hello Games has done a great job, and it’s worth noting that all their expansions are completely free, the player community is welcoming, and you won’t encounter a single microtransaction. No Man’s Sky probably won’t thrill absolutely everyone, but it should be given a chance. Once it captivates you, it will be hard to tear yourself away from the screen.

Honestly, I think the name Overwatch 2 really means, "It's the same game, but we want to learn from our mistakes—please forgive us." That said, the developers have given us plenty of new features, and it's clear they're trying their best. As an Overwatch veteran, I'd recommend this title to both longtime and new players. Try to stick with the game and wait to see how the developers handle the backlash from fans. If it doesn’t work out, we can just forget about it.

This adrenaline-fueled third-person shooter will keep you hooked for hours on end, and every time you fire it up, you’ll have a different experience. The game boasts truly entertaining gameplay and has almost no downsides. The graphics might not appeal to traditional gamers, but if you enjoy the roguelike genre, you’ll be hooked on Risk of Rain 2 like crazy.

Considering how awesome this game is, it doesn’t get talked about much, which I think is a shame. I had an incredible time playing F.I.S.T. Forged in Shadow Torch, and I hope this isn’t the end of it, given how it wrapped up. At times you get to enjoy the game’s beautiful graphics, and at other times I thought I was going to smash something when I had to defeat a boss on my thirtieth try. The story was so comprehensive that not a single detail was left unexplained, and so well-crafted that it could make for a great movie. I was even surprised that an average computer could handle this game without a single issue. The game is exciting; brutal combat, exploring locations, and plenty of other features set it apart from titles in the same genre. It’s definitely worth playing.

Car Mechanic Simulator 2021 didn’t set the bar too high, but it still has the potential to be an interesting concept. I’d like to see a bit more simulation and realism. On the other hand, the gameplay is accessible to less experienced players who aren’t expecting a hardcore simulator, allowing them to—at least figuratively speaking—get their hands dirty with oil and grime. The Polish developers are taking a slow approach to growing their brand. I expect a shiny new car straight from the factory, but instead I get a well-used vehicle—nice and functional, but nothing that would blow me away.

Trek to Yomi is a solid samurai-themed game, delivered in just the right doses. After a few hours of play, it offers a fairly satisfying story, complemented by a highly effective environment and design, along with a combat system that works well—provided you play it safe. It’s not a platformer version of Ghost of Tsushima, but rather a game with a surprising atmosphere and a loving nod to samurai films.

Foregone is certainly not a bad game, and I can definitely recommend it to fans of the genre. Unfortunately, compared to other games—such as the genre’s standout, Hollow Knight—it feels terribly ordinary, neither here nor there. As a quick little game, it serves its purpose perfectly. If you’re looking for some light-hearted fun in this genre, you should definitely give Foregone a try. However, if you want something more substantial, I’d recommend checking out other games like Hollow Knight, Dead Cells, and others.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands is a great action game with an interesting premise, set in a fantastic world with beautiful graphics, a great sale price, a well-crafted story, and a few annoying bugs—all topped off with microtransactions. I've forgiven it, and you should too for just ten bucks.

Even though Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion has a few flaws, it’s not a waste of time, and I believe that spending a few hours in the world of animated plants could brighten someone’s day. It’s definitely the perfect game for a long train ride or a wait at the doctor’s office, especially if you pick it up for the Nintendo Switch.
