Streets of Rage 4: Mr. X Nightmare is a simple expansion that revitalizes the beat ‘em up. The three new characters have unique fighting styles, and it's a lot of fun to understand and master their nuances. On the other hand, Survival Mode offers varied games, mainly because of the presence of improvements that alter the characters' abilities. It's just a shame that the content is somewhat limited. Finally, the fighters' attack customization options open up many possibilities, but unlocking these moves is costly and requires grinding. In the end, Mr. X Nightmare is a great reason to return to the streets of Streets of Rage 4, even if it's not too elaborate.

This is a dlc that actually adds some value to the already great original game: three (well, four) new characters, character customization and an addictive survival mode and buying all these additions really don’t set you back that much.

Streets of Rage 4: Mr. X Nightmare is a fairly priced bit of DLC that is the perfect reason for people who played this title a year ago to pick the game back up again. All three new characters play differently from one another, providing a satisfying variety as you pound your way through hapless bad guys once again. The Survival mode also exceeded my expectations and has that addictive ‘one more time’ feel to it.

Streets of Rage 4 Mr. X is an interesting piece of content. If you’re a fan of Streets of Rage 4 and have put the game down, unless you are fine with grinding to unlock new moves and various other content, then it’s worth checking it out. However, if you were looking for something more, you want to pass up on this.

The three new characters — Estel, Max, and Shiva — enhance an already stacked roster, and the endless Survival mode adds considerable longevity to the core experience, as long as you don't mind the repetitive, grindy gameplay loop.

The beautiful thing about beat-’em-up games is that the genre’s appeal is immediate: Walk right, punch everyone along the way and feel great about it. The beauty of “Mr. X Nightmare” for “Streets of Rage 4” is less apparent, because the original game was already packed with value. But at $8, this trio of indie studios somehow made a far more robust and replayable package. There’s little else to say besides “Streets of Rage 4,” as a now-complete package, has my highest possible recommendation.

Mr. X Nightmare is a DLC that will bring some freshness to Streets of Rage 4 and a lot of replayability thanks to the creation of challenges in a procedural way. If you are a lover of the saga, give it a chance because it's very funny.

Streets of Rage 4 was already the pinnacle of beat ‘em ups in the modern age, and Mr. X Nightmare only fans its flames even more with the new additions it brings. If you have yet to give the game a go for whatever reason, now’s the perfect time to do so.
