Avenging Spirit Reviews
Avenging Spirit is a lesser-known '90s arcade game with a unique "possession" angle that helps distinguish it from the excess of retro platformers available on the Switch. It's worth a playthrough, especially if you're unfamiliar with its charms.
Avenging Spirit is a fun arcade game that has a unique mechanic that lets you possess a variety of characters and won't eat all of your coins in the process! It's incredibly short but was an enjoyable experience.
Essentially, then, how much you get from Avenging Spirit depends on how much you generally get out of arcade-style experiences. Blast your way through with unlimited credits and you may well be done and dusted with it in less than an hour, but give yourself some self-imposed challenges — or just step back and enjoy the lovely pixel art and sprite animation throughout — and there’s plenty of fun to be had over the longer term.
Avenging Spirit is a fun retro arcade game but one that you likely won’t be spending much time with. It isn’t expensive so I don’t mind the length too much but if you’re expecting to get hours of unique content out of this you won’t. You’ll get to kill enemies as dragons, vampires, ninjas, and more while trying to save your girlfriend and then you’ll likely head off for some new adventure. If that sounds alright with you then give this one a shot.
The original arcade version of Avenging Spirit is more of a wacky curiosity than a good game but it still makes for some fun times.
While Avenging Spirit might not be my top '90s arcade game by any stretch, I do think the low price point and attention to detail on this release make it worth picking up.
While its retro looks and funky gameplay style are unique there's not much meat here
For preservation purposes, as well as discoverability ones, this re-release of Avenging Spirit is incredibly valuable. Given that the general gaming audience probably haven’t even heard of it in the first place, credits are due to Ratalaika Games for doing the work that they’ve been doing with these. Avenging Spirit is easily my favorite among these re-releases so far, and I can’t wait to see what’s coming next out of their seemingly bottomless treasure chest of little known old hits.
Avenging Spirit really is a cool title, but this time maybe it would have worked better as a part of a collection or if it had some significant addition to justify the release. The fact it's very easy and there isn't anything to justify a new playthrough [after beating it] means it'll just be left aside quickly.

However, they do have to get on top of the emulation in the future: bad sound emulation here is unfortunately, a big shame that brings the whole package down, and while it’s not as unplayable as Panorama Cotton was at launch (the gameplay is perfectly as it should be, it’s just the audio that’s irritatingly off), it’ll definitely bug those who’ve played this game the way it should sound.
Avenging Spirit is a dated arcade title. Sadly, it is too simple and lacks longevity. However, it is great for completionists and will interest hardcore 90s gaming fans.
Avenging Spirit brings back the 1992 classic by adding a good number of visual and gameplay customization options. Although the number of titles is small, its price is also small and we will have no problem giving it a try.
