Cult of the Lamb Review Summary

MightyCritic Consensus

Cult of the Lamb provides a highly addictive gameplay loop by merging two different genres into a funny and dark story that, while suffers from some bugs, provides a highly enjoyable game.

Cult of The Lamb is a single player action roguelike dungeon-crawler combined with being a management sim. The action roguelike element provides simple, fast, difficult, but not unfairly so, combat and the village management sim side gives constant unlocks to make the game feel quick and always providing a sense of momentum and highly addictive gameplay loop.

The world of Cult of the Lamb provides a story with a dark sense of humour, laying out your objectives early on in a simple way which makes sense, throwing you into the action immediately. Building your own village and becoming a cult leader makes the world feel personalised to yourself and keeps you invested throughout its 10-20 hour playtime, whilst also, through randomised interactions, provides reasons to play again. This makes you care about your villagers in the game, giving you reasons to make sure your village continues to grow and the cult is provided for.

The art style is excellent and it looks gorgeous, with the sound work also being made up from an excellent soundtrack to the sounds of combat.

The game does have some performance issues across platforms, but they aren’t game breaking and in spite of them Cult of the Lamb provides an addictive, engaging and fun game and story to lose yourself in.

Unlike anything else, and able to meld its two disparate halves into something cohesive and satisfying. You won't feel fleeced if you buy this.

Cult of the Lamb is a wolf of a satisfying base-management game in the sheepish clothing of an approachable action-roguelite.

A desire to please shines throughout this charmer with a hundred moving parts.

I can easily see Cult of the Lamb becoming one of the next indie darlings, and it would be utterly deserving of the epithet.

Turning a demonic cult into a management simulator is an amusing idea but the cute graphics are the only lasting entertainment to be had from this misjudged muddle of a game.

Running through dungeons and improving my cult compound was satisfying, and I found plenty of enjoyment in Cult of the Lamb as a result, even when I felt more like a ruthless boss than a leader.

Cult of the Lamb merges the best parts of a rogue-like with all the charms of a real-time simulation game in a delightfully macabre ceremony you don't want to miss.
