Trine 5 is the absolute best installment in the series to date. The higher production values, expanded co-op, customisation and indivdual talent trees, coupled with the fiendish puzzle solving and expert physics Frostbyte are renowned for compliment one another brilliantly. Minor glitches aside, the game still falls into the same trap as its predecessors of being a little too repetitive late on, but whether you’re on your own or with a family, you can have some great fun with this one.

My siblings and I ultimately had fun with Trine 5, even through our gripes with the game’s puzzles left us feeling sour on our run. It felt like we were encouraged to skip puzzles than to try and complete them, and I feel that sort of gameplay is simply not encouraging for a player to keep playing, especially if they were to go solo. But we could see ourselves replaying this game or checking out the older titles and I think that says a lot.

Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy is the biggest installment in the franchise to date. Although the game is quite continuous with respect to the previous installment, the new abilities of our protagonists and the new puzzles and elements will delight fans of the Frozenbyte franchise. Also audiovisually the game is a delight like its predecessors. Some might think that few risks have been taken and that being a continuist is something negative, but four years have passed since the previous installment, so this Trine does not run the risk of embarrassing the user. Travel without fear to the beautiful world of Trine, fun is guaranteed.

Frozenbyte hasn’t lost a step in the four years since the last game. Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy reminds me of a simpler time but still manages to be engaging and complex. The story presents the biggest threat to the heroes in all of its entry’s since the original, and is a wonderful adventure all around. If you’ve never experienced a Trine game, there’s no better time. Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy proves to be a delight and highlight among its contemporaries.
