Critic Reviews for Gori: Cuddly Carnage

An inventive action platformer that manages to be both cute and gory in equal measure and where it seems absolutely impossible that it could be the work of primarily just two people.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage is unpleasant and even somewhat ugly, but it's also deeply funny and thought-provoking. In no game will you be able to control a skater cat, cyberpunk, kill zombie unicorns... And that is something to take into account.

Gori Cuddly Carnage is a really fun game that offers a decent mix in its levels and challenges. I did play through levels a couple of times because I enjoyed the gameplay and the humour of it. While there are some issues, namely the camera and a couple of platforming bits, overall Gori Cuddly Carnage is a fun, gory, time.

I had no idea what I was in for with Gori: Cuddly Carnage, and I certainly didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Its crassness is kind of a take-it-or-leave-it for me, but it fits a ridiculous world taken over by crazed toys that are in desperate need of murder by a sentient cat friend and his blade hoverboard. And that feels like a good way to look at most of Gori. It sets out do all sorts of things gameplay-wise and it does all of them pretty well to make a ridiculously graphic world and narrative pretty dang fun. Mind the tykes in the room when you’re playing this one.

Despite its flaws, Gori: Cuddly Carnage claws out a place in the hack and slash genre.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage is a character action game full of blood, swearing and clever ideas, and if that doesn't excite you I don't know what will.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage's hyper-violent, comic book spin on the character platformer is fun and easy to get to grips with. It's an entertaining ride, though the sheer volume of comedic banter will overwhelm as much as it entertains, and performance issues plague the experience throughout. Otherwise, it just about holds everything together and will no doubt appeal to some. Others may tire of the scattershot humour long before Gori has defeated the Adorable Army.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage is a manic action adventure that successfully combines multiple gameplay elements. Traversing the world is a thrill and is accentuated through platform-focused segments. Unfortunately, the basic combat gets tedious due to the lack of depth and repetitive missions. Although that portion is underwhelming, it’s still a chaotic crusade packed with style.
