RetroRealms Arcade Reviews
RetroRealms: Halloween is not a bad game, but it's one where the potential for more is very apparent. Its RetroRealms: Ash vs. Evil Dead counterpart has delivered on more and is a fun adaptation of the movie franchise, as the 16-bit 2D platformer style of game is a surprisingly great fit and manages to fit all of the charm of the original movies inside of it.
RetroRealms: Halloween and Ash vs. Evil Dead delivers gruesome gore and plenty of easter eggs, but their platforming and arcade fail to inspire.
RetroRealms is a real treat for fans of Evil Dead and Halloween, as these are fun to play through regularly and even more fun to mix and match the scenarios.
RetroRealms Double Feature – Halloween and Ash vs the Evil Dead is a long title for a surprisingly long game. It looks beautiful and has some great midi-style music, but is let down by a gameplay loop that simply doesn’t hold up. At $25 per title, it's also a big ask monetarily if you want to see all eight campaigns.
RetroRealms takes two of the most beloved horror series and adapts them into enjoyable platformers with excellent pixel art. The difficulty can be a little bit mean at times, but both titles are a blast overall – especially for fans of each respective series. I can’t wait to see what other movies get the RetroRealms treatment, though I’ve got my fingers crossed for Alien.
