Overruled! has a few decent ideas in hand, the game-changing card system is especially quaint and brings much needed elements of luck to an easily mastered game. The local experience is phenomenal and proves to be close to couch warfare at its best, but simply falls flat on its face everywhere else.

Overruled!'s core premise isn't a bad one at all, and developer Dlala Studios clearly has good intentions behind it. However, almost every aspect of the game fails to impress, and the title is ultimately best avoided because of it - especially given the release's desolate online servers, and lack of any meaningful single-player experience.

At the end of the day, I had an absolute blast playing Overruled! and that, for me, is the most important metric by which any game can be judged. While the first round was a confusing morass of blind fumbling and trying to understand, all the ones after it were an exercise in the best kind of tense, engaging gameplay.

Overruled feels like something that would have been on the first Xbox at the same price. The gameplay has its place in the systems' library, but there is a lot of room for improvement here.

The premise behind Overruled! is strong, but unfortunately the implementation is so poor that the best thing we have to say about the game is that it has nice background art.

Overruled! is not as fun as many multi-player brawlers currently available on the PlayStation 4 so unless you have already had your fill of the many multi-player brawlers on the PS Store and want a little much brawler action, you can easily give Overruled! a miss.
