Critic Reviews for Dogpile

Charm and a solid formula go a long way to smoothing over this roguelike deckbuilder's ungroomed edges.

Studio Folly and Toot Games have dealt players a good hand with Dogpile. Tetris dreaming is one thing, but it's another to see falling dogs in your sleep. It's a good problem to have, especially since they're all such good boys.

Dogpile is a casual and secretly addictive roguelike deckbuilder that draws you in with dogs and keeps you with its gameplay. You can easily spend hours figuring out the best strategies that help you achieve the highest scores. Some major flaws hold the game back as they significantly disrupt gameplay. Give the game a chance, and you can fall in love with it, but be aware that it’s not perfect.

Simply put, this is $10 USD well spent.

Dogpile combines the Suika Game formula with deck-building, and I really like the results.

It’s this ability to explore and experiment that made me fall in love with Dogpile. Even though I’m looking at the same doggy faces every playthrough, and even though the cute music plays on an endless loop, what I notice is how much a chihuahua’s bark disrupts my carefully plotted stack of chow chows, or just how many fleas I’ve put on the greyhound. In the almost seven hours I’ve put into this game, I have yet to repeat a deck theme, a testament to just how varied this simple mechanic can be. It’s an absolute delight and deeply addictive. It’s a testament to how much power there is in the simple joy of dropping things on other things, watching stuff happen, and throughout it all, being serenaded by a happy little “woof.”
