Critic Reviews for Fear The Timeloop

For a reasonably priced game, I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of games with a twist in their gameplay and likes a bit of a challenge. So, if you have about 10 – 15 hours to spare, depending on your ability to solve puzzles and crack safes, give it a go for sure.

There’s one major drawback that prevents Fear the Timeloop from being a great game: for some reason, the developers cheaped out when it came to voice actors.

Fear the Timeloop is definitely an interesting survival horror game that, while it may not look like a big-budget title, manages to deliver a powerful experience. Its greatest strength is its original take on the time loop. Every death isn’t a failure, but another step toward understanding the situation. Of course, the game isn’t without its flaws. At times, it feels technically rough around the edges, and some mechanics could use more refinement. Still, it succeeds in creating a suspenseful atmosphere and keeping you on the edge of your seat. Another strength is the gradual unfolding of the story, which motivates you to keep going. If you enjoy games that make you think, plan, and try new approaches, Fear the Timeloop might be a pleasant surprise for you.

With a total of nine chapters, this game is far from short. The puzzles are quite challenging and certainly not always easy, and the progression is very well structured. Only when you get a shotgun can you blast down a door. Only when you have found a specific item can you save to a save room and store inventory, and there are many lockables that you unlock slowly. In this way, the game world unfolds gradually. However, the time pressure has to suit you a bit, and even a watch showing how long you have left to survive might be a bit too much. It makes you constantly feel pressure to act and search quickly. In total, the game will take you at least ten hours to complete, and you will have to replay quite a few sections, considering you will likely die on the lower difficulty levels as well. Whether you feel like doing that and want to take the time is up to you, but if you do, that little bit of gold hidden somewhere at the bottom will slowly appear.
