Critic Reviews for Mr. Sleepy Man

Mr. Sleepy Man is a title for fans of N64 games and is brimming with personality. There isn’t much direction, so you’re free to wander and cause chaos wherever you go.

Mr. Sleepy Man is a game that will appeal to absolute weirdos – myself included – through and through. It’s a blast to run around, and platform in, and the creatively bizarre world and characters are unlike anything I’ve played before. It can certainly be a bit confusing if you try to play it like a regular platformer, but if you’re willing to wade in the weird, this is one game you won’t forget for a good while.

Mr. Sleepy Man is weird, personal, and built around movement and world design that most indie platformers don't come close to. The freezes and collectible respawning are genuine issues, and the nonlinear structure asks more patience than some players will want to give it. But Devin Santi created something here unlike anything else you'll play this year, and that alone makes it worth your time.

Unexpectedly, Mr. Sleepy Man stands as one of few games that made me reconsider my thoughts partway through my play session. It’s a game that intends to be unapologetically itself with it’s open floor concept for players to cause mayhem, and features hundreds of collectibles to keep players busy for a while. The game does all of this while sporting a unique soundtrack, as well as a nostalgic but enjoyable retro aesthetic with homages to N64 platformers.

Mr. Sleepy Man is a wonderfully weird platformer filled with incredibly fun moments. It won't overstay its welcome, but it'll keep you entertained and engaged through the handful of hours it takes to get through credits. For a solo-developer joint, it's filled with creativity, unencumbered by studio oversight, and wears its heart on its sleeve.
