Critic Reviews for Temple of Yog

Temple of Yog is a title that would demo quite well; the first ten or so minutes revealed some fantastic possibilities.

Temple of Yog can provide a satisfying, arcade-like rush for points and glory, and its use of the GamePad is cleverly implemented. It's certainly worth a look for score attackers and has promise of becoming something even more, but those looking for a deeper experience in their dungeon diving might want to approach with caution (or patience) before deciding to sacrifice their money.

Temple Of Yog puts it all out there early, without any real feeling of getting more powerful other than an ability to take more hits.

While it doesn't fulfill its initial promise, Temple of Yog is still a unique rogue-like that you can't find on any other console. If you're a Wii U owner, you owe it to yourself to check out one of the few games that actually takes advantage of the GamePad.

It's true that Temple of Yog is ultimately relatively cheap, at about the price of a Jalapeño & Cheese Whataburger combo. But who wants cheap things when they are of low quality? If Temple of Yog had reached the potential it unfortunately fell short of, I would have had no problem dropping twice the money on it. When more content for the game releases, I will certainly give it a spin and see how it has improved. For now, it is what it is, and I would only recommend it to bored Wii U owners with spare money to burn.

Temple of Yog has some interesting mechanics and it presents a gameplay that is simple, yet effective for a game of its kind. Unfortunately its levels fall into repetition and the lack of depth of its exploration means that it will quickly lose appeal to anyone other than the most determined players looking for a retro-style game that involves fighting within dungeons.

Temple of Yog presents itself as an interesting roguelike title, promising a progression of characters, while enhancing a civilisation through the gameplay. A number of features are worth looking at, but the game in general could have done with more time in development. If the problems are fixed, and more variety added, it has the potential to be a great addition to the Wii U library.
