BLUE REFLECTION Quartet is a collection that is less than the sum of its parts, with the adaptations for Ray and Sun being extremely lackluster. Additionally, the new and improved visuals are still quite dated and also unimpressive from a performance standpoint, especially on the Switch 2. Despite its phenomenal audio design, which significantly elevates the experience and all its other elements, the collection feels more like a missed opportunity, much like its overall narrative that wasted its potential.

Blue Reflection Quartet is the definitive way to experience Gust's emotional JRPG saga, combining four heartfelt adventures with meaningful improvements, beautiful presentation and compelling character-driven storytelling.

I am grateful for the existence of BLUE REFLECTION Quartet because, however flawed, it preserves worthwhile experiences that I had the chance to play. However, I wish the mediocre games making up this collection had received at least a third of the care and attention that Second Light did.

Gust’s games have improved significantly since this series’ inception—and while BLUE REFLECTION Quartet features games that aren’t particularly imaginative—those that enjoy good character stories, magical girls, and decent combat systems will find themselves home here in this hefty collection of RPGs. ∎

Blue Reflection isn’t some fancy JRPG series that everybody is tripping over themselves to worship at the altar of. It’s not Persona. And maybe that is the issue. The Blue Reflection series invokes many franchises some might look at as better when compared to it. I never found this to be an issue, though. There is a deep catharsis to be found in the halls of each of these schools, and somewhere it can hold a mirror up to your own trauma and make you feel seen. Blue Reflection is imperfect, and that’s just part of the reason it is so special.

Blue Reflection Quartet is a great way to experience the series. While Second Light truly steals the show, having the original game alongside the remake of Sun are really nice additions. Sadly Ray’s adaptation isn't anything to write home about and a few cuts were made to the original game, but those are small flaws in an otherwise enjoyable package.

For players who want to explore the world of RPGs more deeply, BLUE REFLECTION Quartet is a good option. Due to the amount of content included in the package, the collection offers dozens of hours of well-spent gameplay. Individually, however, the titles could have benefited from more new features.

BLUE REFLECTION Quartet is the definitive way to experience Gust's magical-girl RPG franchise. While not every entry reaches the same level of quality and some of the older games show their age through repetitive gameplay and slower pacing, the collection successfully preserves the entire saga in one package. The newly adapted versions of RAY and SUN, along with visual enhancements and quality-of-life improvements for the original releases, make this much more than a simple re-release. Whether you are discovering the series for the first time or returning to revisit its emotional stories, BLUE REFLECTION Quartet offers dozens of hours of heartfelt storytelling, memorable characters, and satisfying turn-based combat that make it an easy recommendation for JRPG fans.
