Critic Reviews for Faraway
Faraway is an at-times exacting physics puzzle game in the appealing disguise of a chill-vibe experience.

Faraway gets a full arcade game out of a single button: hold to orbit a star, let go to be slung toward the next, and draw constellations before the clock runs out. The learning curve is steep and the tutorial thin, and the endless mode grows predictable once you master it, but it runs smoothly on PS5 and rewards anyone who likes chasing high scores.

When all is said and done, Faraway is one of those rare games where the core concept is infinitely easier to explain than it is to actually master. Steph Thirion has crafted a flawlessly minimalist arcade experience governed by highly strict rules, yet offering a massive ceiling for progression and mechanical mastery. This is the textbook definition of an "easy to play, hard to master" game. Hurtling through space, hooking onto stars, and drawing constellations seems effortless, but the deeper you push, the more you realize how absolutely vital it is to understand every single trajectory and exploit every microsecond. If you appreciate arcade games built on dead-simple mechanics that demand serious time and patience to truly master, Faraway undeniably deserves your attention.

Faraway delivers an original and rewarding experience, built around intuitive yet deep mechanics. Its minimalist art style gives the game a distinct identity. However, some progression choices can disrupt the pacing and lead to frustration, particularly in the later stages.

Faraway blends puzzle and arcade gameplay into a minimalist experience. Building constellations and uncovering the potential of its one-button controls is fun, especially when mastering more advanced techniques. However, its simple modes can become repetitive, while the controls sometimes lack the precision needed to bring the game's ideas to life. Still, it is a charming and distinctive experience, as beautiful as the shooting star at the heart of its brief, fleeting journey.

A new style of puzzler that'll challenge you, excite you and infuriate you, Faraway has a devilishly straightfoward gameplay that balloons as the stars around you also expand. Whilst I can't say I had fun experiencing the game's steep learning curve, I can appreciate when a game brings something entirely fresh and exciting and Faraway does just that.
It isn’t likely to get as much awards buzz as a story-forward game like Mixtape, but the soul-nourishing constellation game deserves its flowers for being every bit as expressive by barely saying a word.
