Moon Hunters is more than the retro-styled action game that screenshots would lead you to believe, but it is also less than the “personality test RPG” that it sets out to be. A fun evening with friends could be had, but don’t expect to find a lasting experience.

Moon Hunters is ambiguous, on the one hand players get, interesting style of storytelling to the wonderful sound, and the other too short a story, a story which repeats itself over and over again, bringing a few new details that do not particularly affect it, Yes, the game certainly knows how to tighten, especially in your accidental, which hits a character, after all, as he of them will be selected depends directly from the player and his choice.

All said Moon Hunters is an ambitious and well-executed exercise in storytelling as much as it is in implementing the game’s action. I found the change of pace to be refreshing, and the presentation and imagery helped establish lore without it just being a bunch of gibberish written to the screen as some games have done. There’s a care and attention to detail to it all that I hope people will give a chance and discover, but I can see where people may give it a rough playthrough or two and decide to move on as well. If you’ve been looking for something that sets itself apart from most of the games of its kind out there, even if it may not meet all of its goals, Moon Hunters is a worthy attempt worth giving a try.

Moon Hunters is not only a wonderfully creative game, but it manages to be innovative without getting weighed down by other issues. And, with it’s pick-up-and-play like style, the significance has been added to it’s short rate of completion. The technical prowess isn’t the greatest, but everything else is supremely top-notch.

The world of Moon Hunters keeps you playing. The story seems short and straightforward at first, but actually conceals a variety of branching narratives. You can set out to find all these hidden secrets in multiple playthroughs or just grab a couple of friends and enjoy the combat and decision making as a team.

To me, there are some really neat ideas on paper that just did not come together as well as I would have hoped. But, again, I think this is worth a look at some point. Just go in with some tempered expectations and you may find it much better than advertised.

Despite bits of repetitiveness in its story and gameplay, Moon Hunters is well worth playing.
