Critic Reviews for Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has launched with a great class system and amazing promise
Structural innovations and strong presentation, held back by grind and an old-fashioned business model.
Square Enix doesn't offer much innovation with Final Fantasy XIV: this is a realm reborn, not the MMORPG genre. But the game is expertly prepared, and even if the systems are all familiar, they take place in one of the most enchanting MMORPG settings ever. So eat up. Get your fill. This one's an enjoyable feast.
Final Fantasy XIV is reborn on the PlayStation 4, rife with new features and gorgeous visuals that will tempt PC and PlayStation 3 players all over again.
Those who already have friends playing have even less reason not to jump in. As far as MMORPGs go, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is at the top of its class.
I'm never thought I would be this enthusiastic about an MMO again, but I'm in love with A Realm Reborn. Its beautiful world always offers something fun and interesting to do. Sure, it's not "the next big thing" for the genre, but A Realm Reborn shines with a hundred smart ideas and small touches. Final Fantasy fans in particular will love adventuring in the gorgeous world of Eorzea.
Square Enix's Final Fantasy-themed MMO doesn't get everything right, even on PS4, but the things it does well outweigh those it doesn't, and the end result is a fun and engaging open world RPG with some great multiplayer options that don't really come into their own until end-game.
