Owlboy is stellar game that well-deserves a spot on your console. The vibrant, detailed world, interesting characters, interactive gameplay, and soundtrack makes Owlboy not just one of the best indie games but one of the best platformers.
Our Owlboy Review is full of highs and lows but through the whole journey, you still land on your feet excited!
Owlboy is a stunning retro metroidvania title that is a joy to play and get lost in. If you have to play one retro title this year other than Celeste, do yourself a favor and pick up Owlboy for console or PC.
Owlboy is everything you’d traditionally expect of 2D puzzle-platformer and beyond.
In summary, Owlboy is a near-perfect retro adventure that doesn’t emulate classic 16-bit titles so much as it gives us what we remember them to be. Sprawling and epic, even in the confines of a 2D plane, full of likeable protagonists, nefarious villains, tough encounters, and an uplifting story that you’ll walk away from satisfied.
Owlboy is a marvelous action-adventure that successfully combines gameplay and story for one memorable adventure that’s worth playing multiple times.
D-Pad Studio's Owlboy is everything you love about the indie game industry: a pixel-art visual masterpiece that is supported by a solid story, gameplay and amazing soundtrack. It's available on Nintendo Switch and PC, and you should definitely get it, with no regrets.
Owlboy is a game which invokes many emotions due to its fabulous musical score, inviting visuals and a story which gets better with time as you get to know the characters. It's not the biggest challenge you will face and most will be able to complete the game without issue. The key here is the experience and on that count, this should be a game you consider to add to your collection.
From the built-in mythology, character animations, well-written dialogue, tight controls, and a handful of plot twists, Owlboy does just about everything right.
Overall I had a fabulous time playing through Owlboy, and the fact that it surprised me with some regularity was a huge bonus. While most indie titles tend to move in the direction of a very specific style of play it manages to be a little more diverse, helping it stand out among its peers beyond its good looks. Throw on a non-traditional story and hero and you have a game that doesn’t get everything right but that, without question, invested a great deal of effort in being notable.
Owlboy incorporates a variable and challenging game mechanic into a world whose habitants and landscapes you just have to love.

Beautifully crafted adventure game. Some of the best pixel graphics to come out as of late and with a fantastic soundtrack to match.
Owlboy fantastic, fun game filled with clever battles, collectibles, and plenty of secrets. While its ending is lackluster, the journey there is well worth it nevertheless.
Owlboy is a great game. The art style is excellent and the characters are great. Definitely recommended.
When it all comes down to it, Owlboy is a phenomenal game filled so much heart and charm that it’s amazing how D-Pad Studio managed to deliver so much for a game that was in development for almost a decade.
