Critic Reviews for Galaxy of Pen & Paper
Galaxy of Pen and Paper hearkens back to a more manual style of game play that has aged well, but requires a more patient set of players than most games today. The writing is imaginative, and it seems a good introduction to the genre, but the graphics may be off-putting to those that enjoy more realistic renderings.
Not without moments of charm, but overall feels like a missed opportunity.
Galaxy of Pen & Paper is an incredibly charming game that I enjoyed. However, I do come from a background of playing tabletop RPGs with friends, and it's impossible to fully recreate those nights of questing and hilarity, even then Pen and Paper does a damn fine job at meta gaming, interjecting comments, and more. I think the game's humor, references, and overall feel will draw many players, but I worry too that some may not fully jump into that recreated world. Combined with larger, but seemingly empty environments and some required grinding, it may be a further turn off to those players.
If you can get past the purposeful pixelated graphics and 8-bit sounding music you’ll no doubt enjoy the throwback feel and pace this game has to offer. There’s a lot of frivolities to be had here if one decides to partake in it!
Hopefully this game will be patched to the extent that people don't need to worry about losing hours of progress, but you should probably avoid purchasing until then.
It's impressive how Galaxy of Pen & Paper +1 Edition feels like a completely different experience while offering a similar enjoyable formula.
Yet, I can’t fully recommended it currently without some warning. There are a few game breaking bugs ruining the game. From games that won’t load, to getting NPC players stuck in the party forever. The devs are aware of it and if they fix this, the score would go up another whole point. As it stands it’s a great game that get a bit repetitive, and has some irritating bugs that could potentially kill all progress in the story. Once those bugs get squashed, it’s a game most RPG fans definitely deserve to check out. It has heart, charm, and lots of funny moments. It just needs a little bit more of “TLC” to give it a full recommended purchase.
