Halcyon 6: Lightspeed Edition Critic Reviews
View All (6 total)Halcyon 6: Lightspeed Edition is a decent update to a game that always had promise, but it's still not for everyone. Rebuilding the Federation, making allies, making enemies, and all the choices I had to make were all compelling, but honestly the combat didn't thrill me and happened just that little bit too often. If you don't mind this as much, then the Lightspeed Edition is a good time, just not quite an essential purchase.
Regardless of how well-received their initial product was, Halcyon 6: Lightspeed Edition is an evolution of it.
As an update of the original (which players get for free if they already own Starbase Commander, which is a great bonus), Halcyon 6: Lightspeed Edition adds some cool new systems, but fails to fix the problem of a grind in combat. Adding timers to moves slowed a system that was always very slow even further. Given how prevalent combat is, it is unfortunate this was not more heavily addressed, as the rest of the game shows tremendous improvement. It is simply is not as "lightspeed" as it should be.
There's a certain appeal that comes with the territory of being the boss. You have minions, they are supposed to do what you tell them to do, life is great. Until of course that your entire federation is destroyed in a heartbeat and the only thing you have left is an alien relic that you're using a space station. Stuck in the middle of now enemy territory with pirates to boot, welcome to Halcyon 6!
