Critic Reviews for Minecraft: Story Mode - Season Two, Episode Four
With improved pacing, Below the Bedrock helps the season bounce back, but the episode feels more like a detour from the season's high stakes than a way to raise tensions heading into the finale
Below the Bedrock is a disappointing episode. It feels nothing more than filler in preparation for what I hope will be an action-packed finale.
Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2 - Episode 4 "Below the Bedrock" is another fine episode in this long running series. There's not much that stands out here, and some of the missions you're tasked with are rather boring, but for those that have stuck it out this long, it's more fine content to explore. It also serves as a great penultimate episode, setting things up for an epic showdown in the finale.
Episode four has set us up for an exciting conclusion to Minecraft: Story Mode - Season Two.
Below the Bedrock is a rock solid penultimate episode for what's been a very under-par Season Two so far for Telltale's Minecraft Story Mode. With a well-balanced structure and a steadily paced plot progression that is intriguing throughout, Episode 4 has pulled off what the first three episodes failed to do: setting up firm foundations for future episodes. It's a real shame that Below the Bedrock didn't come earlier on in the season.
In spite of these small complaints, Below the Bedrock is still another fantastic installment in the surprisingly well-written series so far. Minecraft: Story Mode's second season continues to feature some of the best writing I've ever seen in a Telltale game, and the finale episode simply can't come soon enough.
This penultimate episode doesn't reach the dizzying heights of the season's opening salvo, but it's a solid, satisfying outing.
