Critic Reviews for Terratech
At the core of TerraTech is an extensive mechanical construction kit that presents an interesting canvas for creative players. However, the Switch's significant UI shortcomings, a cumbersome console control scheme, and a limited-feeling campaign will ensure that only persistent players stick around long enough to find the fun.
There's fun to be had, but there will be several unintentional obstacles in your way. 3 / 5
For as much time as I'd like to continue to sink into this game, trying to master the controls that seem to be designed to fight you was a lesson in futility which I don't hope to repeat any time soon.
TerraTech is by no means bad, and there's a lot to like and have fun with in it. The car creation aspect is wonderfully creative, and it's a lot of fun building up the car (or weird shambling monstrosity) of your dreams.
I had a lot of fun with TerraTech creating vehicles and putting them to work. What surprised me most though was how I was spreading my time out over all of the different game modes. Typically in games like this one, I will stick to one mode and stay with it. It speaks to the smart game design that I wanted to spend time with all of the modes and made it made me better in the game as I got those experiences. If you like Survival/Building games this one takes a unique spin and is definitely worth checking out and investing some time in.
Building LEGO-like vehicles, and having them explore a vast world, do quests, and shoot at other, similar tanks or planes, might sound like a fine idea for a construction sandbox, but TerraTech isn't really that good at what it does, for the simple reason that this just isn't fun to play, especially since the transition to the Nintendo Switch has you doing all that building and rebuilding with controls that feel out of place.
Overall, TerraTech is a fun sandbox game that will get your creative juices flowing as you build new stuff to take on the game's Campaign Mode before you dive into the multiplayer side of things. With more stuff to come from the development team at a later date, you should get a head-start and play TerraTech today so that you're ready!
At worst it almost feels like the game is half batting against you so that when you’re downed you have to start building thing up all over again. That said, all in, a fun Lego-like exploration title with a hint of Minecraft and maybe World Of Tanks mixed in there too. There's something for everyone of all ages.
