Critic Reviews for Escape Doodland
New studio flukyMachine's 2D runner-style platformer is every bored student's notebook come to life, proudly embracing its own eccentricities in the visuals department. But turn the page and one will find that the gameplay lacks the same luster, living in the shadows of its influences. While it does sport more-than-serviceable gameplay, Escape Doodland is a game worth playing for its charm and simplicity, not for its depth of mechanics or level design prowess.
Escape Doodland could use some more content, but it's a really neat, little game. As long as I'm not playing level seven.
If running, jumping, and farting around while a huge monster chases you sounds like fun then you'll likely enjoy this off-the-wall indie.
While it likely won’t win any awards Escape Doodland seems to accomplish what it set out to do, provide a somewhat challenging runner that includes some silliness and a lot of weird characters and settings. There are some sections and situations where the hitboxes of your character and elements on the screen can be a bit too large, which is annoying, but for the most part success is all on you getting your execution down and letting your muscle memory get you through tough sections with a little repetition. Since there aren’t too many titles like it on Switch perhaps it’ll satisfy your need for precision jumping, with a bit of weirdness thrown in.
Despite having a disproportionate amount of difficulty at times, Escape Doodland is a fairly entertaining game that will appeal to those looking for a fun-looking, skill-based game.
