Critic Reviews for Tracks: The Train Set Game
For a game featuring lifeless wooden blocks and figures on a big white void of a background, Tracks is a strangely heart-warming game – if you even want to call it a game.
It’s hard to judge Tracks on the standard aspects of a game, but with the issues I had with the controls (likely an issue stemming from porting the game from PC to Xbox) I don’t really want to engage with their creative mode for any length of time either
Overall, it was a fun game for what it is. It is a basic train builder, with fairly simple controls and a huge canvas for you to take creative control over. For the low price of $19.99 USD, you can play the game as you wish, and you will have the chance to relive moments from building the train tracks from your youth.
Obviously, it’s not the sort of game that’s going to appeal to everyone; many of us prefer our video games to give us some kind of structure. But if you’re something of a creative and love seeing your visions come to life, Tracks: The Train Set Game provides a fantastic workspace to create some truly stunning model towns.
Tracks: The Train Set Game would be a great game if it were more polished. As it is, I can only recommend it to fellow train enthusiasts.
Tracks: The Train Set Game is the type of game that directly speaks to those who would appreciate it. The endless possibilities and extremely chill vibe go hand in hand in making your ride enjoyable all the way to the end. A few bumps will come along the way due to awkward controls, but otherwise, you’ll reach your destination comfortably.
With charming visuals, excellent customisation options and an array of powerful building tools at your disposal, Tracks is an all-round great sandbox title. Serving as a perfect introduction to open-world gaming for kids and a nostalgic, calming experience for adults; creating a colourful railway system with Tracks successfully rekindles the child-like joy of creativity in everyone.
Tracks: The Train Set Game is a good idea, but simplified too much. The game has no objective, far too few elements. It's a sandbox game, the game you can actually play for real if you invest as much as the game costs.
