Void Bastards was an indie hit when it launched on Xbox and PC in May of last year, and it seems all but confirmed that it's coming to PS4 too. The game has been rated by PEGI, the European games rating board, and given a PEGI 16 rating, meaning it's appropriate for players aged 16 and up. According to PEGI, the rating is justified "because it features use of strong language and encouragement of gambling." The rating was first spotted by Gematsu.
Historically, ratings boards have been a reliable leak of upcoming video games, so there's no reason to suspect this is anything but accurate. No release date has yet been revealed for the game, but it's reasonable to suspect one soon. With the one-year anniversary of the game coming on May 29, it will likely be no later than that when we see this PS4 launch.
Void Bastards was published by Humble Bundle and developed by Blue Manchu, a relatively new studio. Void Bastards is their second game. It's is inspired by immersive sims like BioShock and tells a loose story of convicts in the future who are used and abused as fodder to retrieve parts on dangerous spaceships for a salvage operation. The game also employs a roguelite system where each playthrough introduces a new randomly generated playable character, each with their own stats and perks. Some are beneficial, like faster movement, while others can be detrimental, like taking more damage per hit.
The game was lauded at launch for its comic book art style, its pervading sense of humor throughout, and its blending of several genres to create something fresh. On OpenCritic, it's been reviewed by 46 critics and recommended by 80% of them, It also boasts a "Strong" average of 81 and even earned at least one perfect score -- from me, in fact.
