Madden 27 improves on the performance of the previous entry and adds in a healthy suite of new features to make this a worthy new year for NFL on Switch 2. Franchise mode is even more of a time sink with the added Persona DNA management, while MUT is bursting with challenges to keep you opening packs until next year.Online issues take the shine off things, at least at launch, but this is the best football game on Nintendo hardware since Tecmo Bowl.

There's clearly a lot of work that went into this year's version of Madden, especially compared to how lazy Madden NFL 26 felt. For the most part, it works out quite well, and I appreciate a lot of the new features. Unfortunately, they often fall short of what I'd expect.

Madden NFL 27 is a good football game. Coming off of Madden NFL 26, the series is trending in a positive direction. Still, some glaring issues bog down the experience, and it would likely take a significant philosophy change to address them. I’ve been able to find the fun, and I’ll keep my fingers crossed that this momentum carries into next year.

This isn’t to say I didn’t have fun with it; it’s just a very typical, buggy, EA Sports Madden experience. But, I gotta say, the Franchise and Superstar modes have both seen a ton of improvements that have me coming back for more.
