Ubisoft Is Publishing A 30-Year-Old Sequel, For The Amiga Of All Things

The Settlers series began in 1993, with the original releasing exclusively on the Amiga. This was back in the days when there were many computer manufacturers, each with its own primitive operating system.

Unfortunately for users of Commodore's flagship personal computer, The Settlers 2 was not available on Amiga systems. Instead, developer Blue Byte Software (now Ubisoft Blue Byte) opted to release the game on MS-DOS.

This great injustice has finally been rectified almost thirty years later by German publisher Look Behind You (nice spot, VGC).

The Settlers 2: Gold Edition will be released on the Amiga on October 18, finally soothing the red-hot rage of Amiga users in 1996.

"Back in the day, every Amiga fan felt the same," says Simon Neumann, the project manager for the new version of The Settlers 2. "We looked enviously at The Settlers 2 on PC, and knew it would have been perfect for the Amiga. Our port of the game brings its legacy to a close."

This version of the game is officially licensed by Ubisoft, who own the intellectual property rights of the series.
