Brigandine Abyss is a new strategy RPG in the classic Brigandine series.
Brigandine Abyss is a clear step forward for the franchise's formula, but it's not yet a heavy-hitter strategy game.
This isn't the sort of tactical RPG that leaves you rueing decisions you've made and mourning the allies you've lost. Brigandine Abyss is practically cosy at times, working much better as a satisfying but unremarkable grind than as a tense battle of wits. I was fine with that, and enjoyed it for what it was rather than what I wished it would be.
All in all, this is a game designed for a niche audience that will love it. If you think Fire Emblem doesn’t have enough base building and Disgaea is only slightly too much of a number cruncher, Brigandine Abyss might be up your alley.
Brigandine Abyss is a deeply involved SRPG that is here to weed out the strategy dilettantes and reward dedicated. The fun here is in the planning, which is good, but the lack of focus on the actual turn-based combat means many will not stay with it for the hundreds of gameplay hours it offers.
Brigandine Abyss had the potential to be great, but it is held back by some issues that make it a disappointing follow-up to its predecessor.
Brigandine Abyss attempts to make the complex strategy/tactical RPG hybrid formula more accessible, but in doing so betrays the core ideas that made the series a cult hit.
BRIGANDINE ABYSS is an addictive time. You can organize a plethora of troops to accomplish a lot of goals all at once. Taking over the continent is a big swig of dopamine. It might have some edges that need to be sanded, but it is enjoyable.
