Ubisoft has become synonymous with open-world action games, but two Ubisoft classics set to release on Switch next week are a reminder of when that wasn't the case. Long before Assassin's Creed and Far Cry, the company cut its teeth on genres like platformers, with the original Rayman serving as its ticket to the big leagues.
A new Nintendo of America video reveals that Rayman 2: The Great Escape and Tonic Trouble are launching on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on December 17. The two games are both 3D platformers originally released in 1999 on platforms that included the Nintendo 64. Both will be free to Expansion Pack subscribers on the Switch and Switch 2.
Despite the iconic status of the Rayman series, Rayman 2's availability on modern platforms is limited. It can be played on PC through the Ubisoft Store or GOG, but its last appearance on consoles was a PS2 remake called Rayman Revolution that was available on the PS3 digital storefront.
