Critic Reviews for Bluey's Quest for the Gold Pen
Bluey's Quest for the Gold Pen is a substantial improvement over the last game, offering up a bunch of well-realised worlds to explore with charming visuals and engaging puzzles. It retains the essence of the original show, but thanks to the adorable narrative, Bluey and Bingo can finally break free from the overly-familiar TV locations.Repetition does quickly seep in thanks to the focus on collectibles, but I'd wager that younger audiences probably won't care about this too much. The lack of a proper co-op mode is a bizarre omission, however, and the experience would have definitely benefitted from voice acting throughout. Still, this is a fine effort from Halfbrick, and an easy recommendation for the summer break from school.
Bluey's Quest for the Gold Pen is an adorable game that's perfect for young gamers who might not have a lot of gaming experience yet.
For a collectathon, Bluey's Quest for the Gold Pen does a decent enough job, and kids will appreciate the uncomplicated gameplay and callbacks to the show. A few more game mechanics, greater variability between zones, and a lengthier storyline, and this had the potential to be something far greater.
Bluey's Quest For The Gold Pen feels right at home on the Nintendo Switch, honoring t the series' style and making good on its' gameplay potential.
Bluey’s Quest for The Gold Pen may be aimed at younger players, but it does a solid job of capturing what makes the show so lovable. It’s simple, charming, and occasionally repetitive, but for families looking for a lighthearted adventure to play together, this is one worth checking out.
Bluey's Quest for the Gold Pen is a safe, cozy, and distinctly Bluey-styled adventure that understands its audience perfectly – even if it trades adult-sized thrills for a perfectly calibrated, frustration-free quest for the little tackers.
The plot, a new story by the show's creator, is barely a premise as the characters show no growth narratively or mechanically. Very young players might be entertained but will need a parent or older sibling to read the dialogue in this entirely single-player adventure. The touch controls from the original mobile release are here and work fine, though.
The amount of adorable displays of imagination in Bluey's Quest for the Gold Pen make it one lovely adventure that anyone can easily enjoy. 🖊️
