Resident Evil 2 Director Demands Capcom Make A "Non-Scary" Mode For Requiem

Hideki Kamiya—creator of Bayonetta, Devil May Cry and Okami—began his career working for Capcom on the original Resident Evil. After a systems-focused role on the original, Kamiya was picked to direct the sequel.

Kamiya currently heads Clovers Studio, a spiritual successor to the Capcom subsidiary Clover Studio that developed Okami. The team recently took a break from developing the sequel to Okami to play Resident Evil Requiem, and a snippet of their experience was posted online via the studio's social media account.

"I've been saying forever they should make a "non-scary" mode," Kamiya says, watching gameplay of Requiem. This prompts one of the others to reply, "That would completely defeat the concept of the game, though."

"Look, I just want to enjoy the puzzles, the puzzles and the combat. I don't need the scary stuff," Kamiya resolves. To be honest, I completely understand where the legendary developer is coming from, though Resident Evil wouldn't be complete without some genuine tension and fear.
