Wyll is often seen as the least appreciated companion in Baldur's Gate 3: he doesn't have a lot of content compared to other companions, playing him as an Origin character isn't that interesting, his personal quest isn't really about him and his romance is underwhelming, to say the least.
It feels like the changes made to Wyll's character in early access—he used to be a brash goblin racist—ultimately impacted the amount of personal time the writing team was able to invest in the Blade of Frontiers.
In a recent interview with Edge (via GamesRadar+), Baldur's Gate 3 writer Kevin VanOrd gave his thoughts on the character, and expressed regrets about how everything turned out.
"I wish I could have done more with Wyll," VanOrd said. "I would love to have a friendship system in addition to a romance system, where you get special events like dates. And I think it would have been really cool for characters to have romances with each other, outside of the player."
