Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been on a Game of the Year rampage. It was evident the game was going to become an all-time classic once the reviews started rolling in, but I don't think even the most optimistic fan could have expected the utter domination it has shown during awards season.
By January 7, Clair Obscur was breathing down Elden Ring's neck, gunning for its "Most Game of the Year awards ever" crown, with 345, and by January 21, it had scooped another 100 awards, eclipsing FromSoftware's 435 wins in 2022. Now, with awards season drawing to a close with the conclusion of the BAFTA Games Awards, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's final tally is in, and it's hit over 500 Game of the Year wins.
Things weren't looking good for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 at the BAFTA Games Awards. It failed to pick up a win in the first seven categories for which it was nominated. It missed out on the Artistic Achievement award to Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Best Music to Ghost of Yotei, and Narrative to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Then the tide turned.
It won the last three awards it was nominated...
