Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe is entering the home stretch of development, and Ubisoft is looking to bring the series back-to-basics.
First announced in 2022, Codename Hexe will take place in the Holy Roman Empire during the witch trials, and one leaker claims Ubisoft is toning down the level of magic in the game and has even removed a controllable cat companion.

According to reports, the development team currently working on Hexe was recently scaled back, as 50 developers were moved to Ubisoft's Interproject team, but the game is still aiming for launch in June 2027.
While there's still not a ton of information about Hexe, Ubisoft leaker J0nathon recently posted on X, claiming that "Since Jean Guesdon took over the Assassin's Creed franchise in February, he decided to remove everything 'magical' from Hexe."
The protagonist will reportedly be taking a grounded approach to witchcraft and will utilize alchemy in place of magic spells, but this information hasn't been confirmed, so only time will tell what degree of magic and fantasy players will experience.
