While Invincible Vs. certainly has an audience; it's Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, which proudly wears the crown of "2026's Most Anticipated Fighting Game." The 4v4 fighter will capitalize on Marvel Rivals' success, bringing a wide range of famous superheroes into a Japanese-style world.
But, while Marvel Tokon has always, in the audience's eyes, been a 4v4 fighter, the game almost started out as a regular 1v1 fighting game, with its director saying he thought it would be "fine."
Speaking to 4Gamer in Japan (and translated by TheGamer), following EVO, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls director Kazutoshi Sekine revealed that Arc System Works nearly developed the game to be a more traditional 1v1 fighter.
"In the early stages of development, we discussed whether it should be individual or team battles, and if it were team battles, how many fighters should be on each team," he said. "I personally thought a one-on-one format would work fine."
