1666: Amsterdam Developer Apologises For AI Art Found In The Demo

1666: Amsterdam was a nice surprise at Summer Game Fest last week. Developed by Panache Digital Games - a studio founded by Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia director, Patrice Désilets - its witchy premise and supernatural gameplay stood out from the crowd. Better yet, a demo was made available immediately.

However, now that would-be fans have played through that demo, 1666: Amsterdam has come under fire. It was quickly found that AI-generated assets are used in-game, and upon closer inspection, the cover art is AI-generated, too. The backlash to this has been fierce and has prompted a response from the developer.

"We have a dedicated team of over a dozen talented and experienced artists," the statement from Panache Digital Games reads. "With them, we looked into the assets in question and found that there were indeed some early versions of assets that made their way into the the prologue [sic]. This includes some in-game portraits and external marketing assets."

The statement continues, with the studio promising to rectify this in a future update. "We own up to this oversight and apologize for any upset caused," they say. "Please be assured that the Early Access...
