Gaming-Village's Reviews
Cadence of Hyrule came as a huge surprise to me, as I can’t stand roguelikes and have been thoroughly disappointed by Zelda games over the last ten years, even though it’s actually one of my favourite game series. However, Cadence of Hyrule is far more of a classic Zelda experience than one might expect and, I would argue, even more so than the last two main entries in the series.

DATE A LIVE: Rio Reincarnation is an entertaining package overall, even if you’re not familiar with the franchise.

Blue Fire is a thoughtfully designed 3D jump 'n' run featuring interesting dungeon designs, fluid and entertaining gameplay mechanics, and a successful variety of gaming tasks. The only stumbling block is the in-game navigation, which suffers from minimal communication and the absence of a map, particularly for the overworld.

Crypt Custodian is an entertaining Metroidvania with plenty of opportunities for exploration and a low-key but effective pathfinding system. The bullet-hell battles are challenging yet fun, and the dialogue is humorous. The gameplay flow is excellent.

BAKERU offers an entertaining journey through Japan. The combat system is fun, the settings are varied, and levels with different gameplay provide additional variety.

Cat’s Request is a largely unremarkable adventure game. The puzzles are mostly very simple and the pace is rather leisurely. It’s also very clear when I need to switch between the two characters. However, the few bugs in the game are highly disruptive. For this reason, I can only recommend Cat’s Request with some reservations. And if you do play it, it’s best to have several save files.

Creatures of Ava is a colourful action-adventure game with exciting gameplay mechanics.

Cattie is a short platformer featuring varied levels. The levels often have a good flow, which is only slightly disrupted by enemies. Anyone looking for a major challenge certainly won’t find it here. For everyone else, however, Cattie offers some entertaining gameplay.

However, anyone who’s better at shoot ’em ups will surely get more enjoyment out of CYGNI: All Guns Blazing than I did.

Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two is a disappointing sequel. While the team at Junction Point tried to breathe fresh life into the game with a second playable character, unfortunately every innovation compared to the first installment feels like a step backwards, and the experience oscillates between fun and frustration without ever offering the player anything truly special.

The Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition is a successful version of the cult classic. The varied gameplay is already good; the QoL features bring the game the final piece into modern times.

At many points one notices the games' age, and without the acceleration features it would often be slow as well. Overall, however, one can definitely give the games in Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster a chance.

Axiom Verge 2 is an excellent Metroidvania that focuses heavily, gameplay-wise, on its clever exploration mechanics and strong level design. Although the idea of two parallel worlds certainly won't win an innovation prize, the implementation of the concept may indeed be understood as a unique selling point.

Cat Pipes is a laid-back puzzle game whose levels are generally of a pleasant level of complexity. However, the controls can feel a bit clunky at times. As no new level elements are introduced, the number of levels is still reasonable. This puzzle game is therefore ideal for a quiet evening.

Consequently, partly due to its slow pace, I find Chicory unbearably boring for long stretches of the game. To the game’s credit, the characters are likeable and the visuals are playful and beautiful, but in my view that does nothing to change the fact that Chicory is very thin on both gameplay and narrative, and stretches what it has to offer over a framework that is far too extensive.

It does make me a bit sad. I really wanted to give the game a good review, because my first impression was absolutely brilliant. I could have lived with the length of the levels as well. But the problems that cropped up later on in the game just ended up causing me more frustration than fun.

Berserk Boy is a magnificent game. Only its length keeps Berserk Boy from getting the full stamp of approval; experienced players finish it quickly in under 5 hours.

Anyone who has something for rhythm games and moaning anime girls can take a closer look and listen. Beat Refle entertained me for a few hours until I had played through the story.

At last, after so many years, there’s a successor that hasn’t forgotten the traditions, yet has still embraced the modern era. The comfort features and the various difficulty levels ensure that absolutely everyone can enjoy it. Contra also looks brilliant and sounds great; the developer has got everything spot on here too.

Crash Bandicoot 4 is a lovingly crafted tribute to the PlayStation classics; whilst it introduces new ideas only very cautiously, it implements them with the utmost care.
