If you're new to Shadowrun Returns, skip the initial release and start with Dragonfall Director's Cut. Nearly every aspect of the Dragonfall campaign is superior to Dead Man's Switch, and there's far more to be excited about than afraid of. When backers were so eager to offer their support for Harebrained Schemes' Kickstarter campaign, Dragonfall Director's Cut is the game that made the investments pay off.

90 / 100 - Sunset Overdrive
Oct 27, 2014

Whether you are defending a trash barge, grinding a dragon spine, or flinging bowling balls at exploding enemies, Sunset Overdrive is pure insanity – just how I like it. Come for the crazy, stay for the fourth-wall-breaking fun.

65 / 100 - Ancient Space
Oct 24, 2014

Ancient Space is a beautiful, almost good space strategy game that falls short due to the amount of work it requires to control your units in battle. The upgrade and customization system lets you outfit your ship with abilities to your liking, and at times the core of the gameplay, which is combat and exploration, is a lot of fun. There's even a well-developed narrative and killer soundtrack. If you're a fan of space strategy games, you might enjoy Ancient Space, otherwise, it's not worth the frustration.

Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth is a great and easily approachable game. The intuitive interface and flexibility of the numerous options make it an easy "yes" for any strategy gamer or Civ fan looking for something more than Earth's history may have to offer. While the visual and stylistic choices may not prove to be to everyone's tastes, there is plenty of both new and familiar to satisfy anyone willing to hop on aboard and see where Beyond Earth is able to take you.

With intuitive controls and great tunes, Disney's Fantasia: Music Evolved is not only a fantastic rhythm game, but one of the best Kinect games ever made.

90 / 100 - NBA 2K15
Oct 20, 2014

Despite the disappointing online issues and insane load times, NBA 2K15 is still a very impressive video game. It does so many things correctly and builds upon pre-existing features in all the right ways. Visual Concepts has managed to make the standard MyPlayer and Association modes into something brand new, which is a task no other sports game has achieved. Because of that, the impressive visuals, and the same enjoyable gameplay, it is easy to imagine NBA 2K15 taking the Best Sports Game award at the end of the year.

85 / 100 - Bayonetta 2
Oct 15, 2014

Bayonetta 2 is a worthy sequel, filled with ridiculously over-the-top action sequences and a combat system par excellence. Just don't come for the story.

The Walking Dead Season 2's gripping tale of growing up in a hostile environment might not be the instant classic that Season 1 was, but it still belongs in the library of any adventure game fan.

85 / 100 - Alien: Isolation
Oct 14, 2014

I went in with a wary eye, but I was pleasantly shocked by how well this title turned out. It slightly overstays its welcome, but the vast majority of the game is a tense and atmospheric mental battle against a vicious and unstoppable killing machine. We've not seen survival horror done this well in a very long time.

70 / 100 - The Evil Within
Oct 13, 2014

There are some genuinely terrifying, nightmare-inducing moments in this game. Unfortunately they are few and far between, which is frustrating because the concept here is solid. A little restraint would go a long way here. Stop throwing hordes of enemies at me and just let the game be scary.

Though opinions varied, we all agreed that while this is a good Borderlands game, it lacks the polish and innovation to stand on its own legs. While it probably should've been DLC, it's still more Borderlands fun for anyone starving for more Vault hunting action.

Beautiful graphics and scenery, but Ryse's combat fails to reach the level expected of modern brawlers. Worth a playthrough for action fans, but little lasting appeal outside showing off your rig's technical chops.

While the core Sleeping Dogs experience is still worth playing, the Definitive Edition is loaded with graphical issues and costs way too much for a game that plays worse than the PC version released two years ago.

90 / 100 - Driveclub
Oct 7, 2014

With amazingly photo-realistic graphics and authentic car sim-style handling, DRIVECLUB offers a uniquely integrated social experience that collects and shares all your records and achievements. While lacking in its core gameplay variety, the endless potential of its online rival club challenges opens up this next gen racer in ways never before seen.

Fight through that frustration of wondering where to go when you start The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.  Once you learn the rules of the game, you'll find a deeply satisfying, if short, story within.

85 / 100 - Wasteland 2
Oct 2, 2014

Awaited for well over a decade by now-ancient gamers, Wasteland 2 manages to live up to the spirit of the original while going beyond it in terms of depth and detail. While there are bugs to be fixed and the difficulty may be too challenging for some, any lover of turn-based RPGs should add this one to their Steam library as soon as they can.

Skylanders Trap Team's biggest surprises lie not in its gameplay, but in how it uses sound to completely sell its gimmick. It'll bleed you dry, but somehow, that doesn't seem so bad.

While the narrative is a bit disconnected, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments uses the short story framework to its benefit, keeping each of its cases focused on pure, thrilling detective work.

While expectations may have been fairly low for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, there was still a certain amount of hope within me that Monolith could produce an enjoyable experience. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor soared past those expectations and not only produced an enjoyable experience, but also one of the best experiences with a video game this year. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is a very well crafted adventure that will keep you hooked for hours on end.

65 / 100 - Anomaly 2
Sep 29, 2014

A tough-as-nails tactical challenge is hard to find in today's console market, and Anomaly 2 will probably be enough to scratch your strategical itch. Without a strong multiplayer community behind it though, I would say skip the PS4 release and head straight for PC if you have the means.
