Denjin Den's Reviews

Aug 29, 2024

Overall, the game is a very enjoyable experience, with an authentic retro feel that remains intact. However, some input lag can detract from the experience, particularly during the platforming sections, where precise controls are essential.

Overall, Capcom’s game is a very enjoyable experience, but it stumbles on a few design choices that undermine its core gameplay. The boss fights and base-building mechanics leave something to be desired when compared to the Tower Defense sections, where the game truly shines and delivers some genuinely satisfying moments.

Ninja Slayer is a chaotic mess of mechanics that simply don’t work. The style is there, but substance is nowhere to be found.

8.5 / 10.0 - CONSCRIPT
Aug 3, 2024

Conscript is a truly excellent survival horror game, and one of the best titles set during World War I currently available. With great tact, and without resorting to Lovecraftian beasts or endless exposition dumps, it manages to bring the horrors of war to life in videogame form with class and a deep respect for both the historical period and the survival horror genre.

8 / 10.0 - Minds Beneath Us
Jul 30, 2024

Minds Beneath Us puts your moral compass to the test, often forcing you to confront uncomfortable truths. When it matters most, it manages to elicit a genuine emotional response from the player, encouraging them to forge their own path, whether idealistic or otherwise.

8.5 / 10.0 - Nobody Wants to Die
Jul 22, 2024

Part Blade Runner, part Cloudpunk, part Altered Carbon, all wrapped in a stunning Art Deco aesthetic and infused with ’50s-inspired engineering and propaganda, Nobody Wants to Die has a character all its own. While drawing inspiration from some of the genre’s greatest cyberpunk classics, it leaves an indelible mark on the player with its own distinctive vision.

7 / 10.0 - Rider's Spirits
Jun 5, 2024

Rider’s Spirits is clearly reminiscent of Super Mario Kart, and while it tries to distinguish itself from the more popular game, it ultimately falls short in virtually every respect. That’s not to say it’s a bad game, it simply trades the instant, chaotic fun that defines Nintendo’s offering for a more technical and demanding approach.

6 / 10.0 - Robobeat
Jun 4, 2024

The game’s main appeal is, of course, the ability to create your own playlist and shoot to the beat. It’s a great idea, but unfortunately, some tracks don’t sync properly with the action, making the rhythm-based shootouts feel a little confusing at times.

It’s a remaster of the original Nintendo GameCube title of the same name. Beyond the cleaner visuals and an aspect ratio optimized for modern TVs, then, there isn’t much else to add. And ultimately, that’s a good thing, because The Thousand-Year Door was already an excellent game 20 years ago.

8.5 / 10.0 - MULLET MADJACK
May 21, 2024

Hammer95’s game deserves plenty of attention from FPS fans, although there are a few shortcomings worth mentioning. First and foremost, the weapons: while they’re all enjoyable to use, some ultimately feel a little underwhelming. The Shotgun and Plasma Rifle, for example, are simply too slow, which feels completely at odds with the game’s overall design.

The whole thing feels like a rushed, poorly polished remake that was left to chance, making a clumsy attempt to win over fans of the series, ironically the only audience likely to get much enjoyment out of it.

7 / 10.0 - Rainbow Cotton
May 8, 2024

Fans of the little witch can finally experience this entry in the series, now with improved and much more responsive controls on their platform of choice or PC. Even so, Rainbow Cotton remains a niche title aimed at a very small, dedicated audience.

7.5 / 10.0 - Indika

Kudos are also due for the direction of the cutscenes and the soundtrack, although the English voice acting is a little less impressive. While clearly well produced, it occasionally suffers from some inconsistencies in the tone adopted by the actors.

Renè Rother’s work is compelling enough to make Children of the Sun an easy recommendation for gamers looking for an indie title with an interesting and original gameplay experience. Although the protagonist’s freedom of movement is severely limited, Children of the Sun still manages to be thrilling and deeply engaging.

8.5 / 10.0 - Dragon's Dogma 2
Apr 5, 2024

Despite its flaws, particularly in the writing of some quests and its uneven difficulty curve, Dragon’s Dogma 2 stands out as a truly unique experience within the open-world RPG genre. It could almost be described as bizarre, or even as a caricature of classic fantasy epics, blending occasionally hilarious situations with a sense of tension that reaches its full intensity in the endgame.

Overall, it’s a solid run ’n gun, but in terms of impact, it falls short when compared both to the original series and to other recent titles in the genre.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, let me tell you, has a whole lot to offer. It’s capable of drawing you into a full-blown JRPG fever, captivating you with its fantastically recreated environments that evoke the original experience, making you smile with its more lighthearted moments, and bringing you back down to earth with its more tragic ones.

7 / 10.0 - Pacific Drive
Mar 8, 2024

The blend of atmospheres inspired by S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Twin Peaks manages to transport players into a fascinating world that feels both lost and strangely familiar. The radio soundtrack is another highlight, with each track perfectly complementing the game’s setting and atmosphere.

Its overly linear quest design, repetitive combat, and underwhelming story make it feel somewhat forgettable, despite its original premise.

7.5 / 10.0 - Dead End City
Mar 1, 2024

The idea of car combat in a Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic world is, as far as I can recall, something the genre has rarely explored. It’s great to see developers embracing concepts that combine original ideas with well-established gameplay mechanics.
