Pokémon X and Y isn't quite an impassioned love letter to the series, but it's damn close. Players can finally experience this world in full polygonal 3D, and despite its remaining grid-based roots, the sense of freedom and openness is tangible and real.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is a polished and all-encompassing experience, which pits players into the role of an eighteenth century pirate named Edward Kenway. While it doesn't blow its predecessors out of the water by presenting anything revolutionary, it provides fans with a fine-tuned and expanded take on its series' core foundations.

Battlefield 4 isn't a massive step forward for the series, but it is a refinement of everything that makes it great. Despite a bland campaign, the game still stands out as one of the most feature rich and intense multiplayer FPS games on the market.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes isn't a revolutionary or unique experience. However, it does what it promises to do quite well, and offers quite a bit of quality content for a below average price tag. As such, it's easy to recommend.

Knack's basic gameplay foundation is a solid one, but with extremely poor, numbingly repetitive level design and an absolutely absurd difficulty level, it is mostly an exercise in frustration, and one of the unfortunate low points of the PS4 launch lineup.

With Killzone: Shadow Fall, developer Guerilla Games has given early PlayStation 4 adopters an entertaining shooter that doubles as a great-looking tech demo. However, by resting on its laurels, the European developer has once again failed to deliver greatness, opting to release a tried but true experience instead of anything revolutionary.

Unsurprisingly, Super Mario 3D World is yet another fantastic platformer starring Nintendo's iconic, red-clad plumber. Although it doesn't necessarily reinvent its genre, the must-play game does a great job of improving upon the elements that made its predecessors classics. Don't miss out on it!

There's no denying that it looks absolutely stunning, but sometimes a pretty face isn't everything and due to some extremely bland combat, Ryse: Son of Rome fails to be the killer app that many had hoped it would be. Still, for a launch title, you could do worse.

Zoo Tycoon is a game that knows its target market and embraces it wholeheartedly. It may not be the deepest or most challenging simulator out there, but it's a great option for those with young children and its charm is simply undeniable.

Forza Motorsport 5 is a lifelike racing simulation experience which will appeal to those who love cars and fantasize about owning the most expensive rides out there. However, despite its removal of A.I. racers in favour of players' analyzed ghosts, the game is still quite sterile, which is something that may bother newcomers.
