DualShockers's Reviews

Unscored - Dragon's Dogma 2
Mar 20, 2024

Dragon's Dogma 2 offers an incredible Fantasy adventure with some of the most engaging open-world exploration I've experienced. DualShockers was provided with a copy of the game for review purposes.

In the end, the moments of jank and the less-than-gripping combat didn’t diminish my experience or my desire to play. I still enjoyed leveling my character. I still enjoyed building my party, especially where skills were concerned. I was also impressed by the intuitive nature of skill checks. When making a check, the game will automatically select the character with the highest rank in that skill to carry out the check. It’s a small touch, but a nice one. Ultimately, this is an easy game to recommend if you like RPGs that put their narrative forward and build their characters in meaningful ways. It may not find a home in everyone’s collections, but it will be a shining star for fans of the setting who appreciate a narrative focus.

Whether you're bouncing on the trampoline in the backyard of Bluey’s house or looking for stickers at the playground, Bluey The Videogame is an assuredly fun time. It gives players a chance to create their own Heeler-style family game night memories, all the while teaching new gaming skills.

Unscored - Ridge Racer 2
Dec 23, 2022

If you're a PS Plus Premium subscriber, there's no question that you should download and play Ridge Racer 2. It's simple, fast, and fun, and in the current climate of live services and stupid dancing emotes, there's no racing game quite like it anymore. For a quick nostalgia fix it's highly recommended, and who knows, maybe it's just a toe in the water for Bandai Namco to gauge interest for a potential Ridge Racer revival? Heck, there's the next game's title right there: Ridge Racer Revival. Fingers crossed...

Stay away from Serious Fun Football. Seriously, it’s not fun, and it’s certainly not football.

Children, if you are somehow reading this, make sure that your parents do not get Nickelodeon Kart Racers for you. This game is a cruel punishment, and while I don't know you, I'm sure you do not deserve it. If you are gifted this game, tell whoever gave it to you to return it—that itself is a gift to them. If you cannot get rid of it, then get rid of it. Bury the game case in your backyard. Give it to your local Pagan to use it for their next Wiccan burning ritual. Go on a profound journey across the land and toss it into the nearest volcano. Nickelodeon Kart Racers is a sin masquerading as a video game, and now we must all wish for forgiveness.

2 / 10.0 - Fallout 76
Nov 27, 2018

All in all, I dreaded every hour I had to keep playing Fallout 76 for review. As soon as the game was beginning to teeter on fun or interesting, a bug or a frustrating gameplay design element would quickly remind me that the game was otherwise. I'm interested to see whether Bethesda will continue to put work towards making this a somewhat enjoyable experience or if they'll just save their money for Fallout 5.

2 / 10.0 - Past Cure
Feb 22, 2018

The only positive thing I can say about Past Cure is that I've taken this hit and played the game for you so that you don't have to. In a time where I believe games are better than ever, I implore you to spend your hard-earned free time cozying up to literally any other game — even Superman 64. Past Cure is not just the worst game I have played over the past few years; it's now on the shortlist of worst games I've ever played in my life.

2.5 / 10.0 - Contra: Rogue Corps

Contra: Rogue Corps joins Bomberman: Act Zero and Hideo Kojima's firing as one of Konami's biggest disappointments.

Cooking Mama: Sweet Shop is by no means a broken game. It just wholly lacks any soul or incentive to be better than any previous game in the series. With shoddy systems, repetitive gameplay, annoying sound design and better iterations of the game elsewhere, dessert diversity wasn't enough to keep me interested.

With a confusing setup, a really poor user interface, at times abysmal presentation, and a Career Mode that offers no meaningful progression, Fernbus Simulator should stay back in the garage and let the more capable sims hit the road.

3 / 10.0 - Blood Bowl 3
Mar 2, 2023

What I don’t understand is why the game was delayed for two years only to launch in this abysmal state. Maybe in another two years, this game will actually be playable. For now, stick to Blood Bowl 2 instead.

3 / 10.0 - GRID Legends
Jan 13, 2023

GRID Legends is a great game. GRID Legends for Meta Quest is not. I'm impressed that Codemasters managed to cram a full console racing game into a VR headset, but the compromises required to do so are too many. For racing fans waiting for a decent native Quest racer, this unfortunately isn't it.

Tennis World Tour is a disappointment, plain and simple. It's one thing to not have key features at launch, but the absence of solid gameplay puts the final nail in the coffin. It's not only dull with its weak and monotonous presentation but frustrating as you watch your generic created character not swing at a ball they could easily hit across the court. There is something to some of the RPG elements within the career mode, but my progression or “gear” doesn't feel like it affects my character's ability to perform well. Tennis World Tour had the opportunity to become the video game series players go on to play a professional tennis simulation. Instead, we are given a joyless and empty experience.

3 / 10.0 - Spheroids
Jan 18, 2017

At the end of the day, Spheroids feels like the video game equivalent fast food. And while there are plenty of great games with shallow experiences, Spheroids is pure junk. Like the Arby’s of video games, the game is a mix of ingredients that deserve to taste way better than they do, and should ultimately cost much less than Eclipse Games is charging.

3 / 10.0 - Umbrella Corps
Jun 27, 2016

By and large Umbrella Corps is a title that, initially, showed promise — I could definitely have gotten behind the idea of a multiplayer Resident Evil title, as the series has shown can work in the right hands, and the right context (like the excellent “The Mercenaries” mode from previous games). However, in execution Umbrella Corps feels less like a unique spin-off from Resident Evil and more like one of its many undead zombies: lifeless, indistinguishable from those around it, and just waiting to be put down for good.
