GBAtemp's Reviews

Deadly Premonition 2 is a competent sequel that comes close to reaching the heights of the original, but falls short due to sloppy gameplay, technical issues and an unwillingness to stray too far from its comfort zone.

I adore Aokana. From its characters, to its visuals, to its made up sport, I thoroughly love it all. It's the kind of story that will captivate you while saying and ultimately doing little. For visual novel fans on the Switch it's another triumphant port, and one that has me eager to see what PQube decide to bring us next.

7.2 / 10.0 - Eastern Exorcist
Aug 18, 2020

As it stands right now, Eastern Exorcist is an excellent work in progress. It certainly isn't without its share of issues but most of them can be fixed in subsequent updates. I recommend at least giving it a look if you enjoy a good challenge.

6.5 / 10.0 - Maid of Sker
Aug 16, 2020

Overall, Maid of Sker is a fairly decent game that could just use a bit more polish and maybe some more varied gameplay mechanics. Is it worth a playthrough? Perhaps, if you like indie horror games. But regardless if you play or not, definitely check out the soundtrack elsewhere!

The game should have been made entirely as a graphic novel. Or had a higher budget to improve the dungeon sections.

7 / 10.0 - Superliminal
Aug 12, 2020

I really enjoyed this title. It caused me to think outside the box a few times, and gave me the impetus to proceed through its intriguing narrative. The use of forced perspective is absolutely genius to behold, but I feel that this is the prototype for something much bigger, more rounded, and more appealing in future. Pillow Castle is definitely one to watch as they have some really neat tricks up their sleeves.

Crysis accomplished yet another feat by running on this console generation's weakest hardware but not without some expected and noticeable issues.

9.1 / 10.0 - Ghost of Tsushima
Aug 2, 2020

At the end of the day, Ghost of Tsushima gets enough right and then some to forgive its shortcomings. Fans of samurai, period pieces, and action games will most certainly enjoy all that it has to offer. The only question is will you fight with honour or not?

6.5 / 10.0 - Röki

Despite offering an original tale presented in a loveable aesthetic, Röki is held back by its core gameplay mechanism.

6.5 / 10.0 - Beyond a Steel Sky

Beyond a Steel Sky plays well as a contemporary point-and-click adventure game but doesn't come off as a particularly striking or memorable one.

Scoring around the 7.5/10 mark in 2005, this "Remake" doesn't really improve anything over the original. Yes, the graphics are updated, and yes the HUD and interfaces are decluttered, but the core lacklustre quality of the "exploration" shines through worse than before.

Paper Mario: The Origami King might seem like a mixed bag on the surface, but in my mind the good outweighs the bad. The music, while forgettable, is still functional. The combat, while annoying, is far from the worst thing I've played. And the just pure enjoyment I got from exploring and experiencing the world is enough for me to still give the game a hearty recommendation.

5.5 / 10.0 - We Should Talk
Jul 17, 2020

With its bugs, loading issues, extremely short playthroughs, limited cast and predictable outcomes, We Should Talk feels more like a demo than a complete, polished game.

SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE truly does live up to its own promise of MORE. The additions to gameplay take the already winning formula and expand upon it, without taking away from what made the first two entries so memorable. It’s some of the most fun I’ve had playing a game, and it’s a game that will definitely have me coming back for MORE.

Overall, Hunting Simulator 2 is an ok hunting game. If you're looking for absolute realism, with fines and licenses and sitting in one place for 2 hours so you can hunt a thing, you'll love Hunting Simulator 2. But if you want something a little bit more arcade-y or something that doesn't involve hours of running around with nothing to show for it, you're best off finding another hunting game.

For better or worse, this is the Mineral Town we know and love. Complete with quirks both good and bad, it stands as a faithful retelling to this classic ranch story. If you're looking for a peaceful game to play a bit at a time, or just want to revisit a beloved town from your childhood, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town might just be for you.

8.6 / 10.0 - Evan's Remains
Jul 6, 2020

Evan's Remains is certainly an interesting combination of genres and while at times the puzzles feel like they are just there to break the story apart, it all comes together with excellent artwork and a memorable narrative.

Personally, I feel that this game is damned close to being a perfect masterpiece. From start to finish I was captivated and the gunplay and combat are satisfyingly stealthy with progressive brutality which some may feel slightly overblows the emotive struggle you endure. Barring a few minuscule glitches and a feeling of being drawn out in places, The Last of Us 2 swings for the big leagues and raises the bar on every level.

6.8 / 10.0 - Beyond: Two Souls
Jun 29, 2020

Despite being a game of ambitious proportions with the visual appeal and an intriguing plot, Beyond: Two Souls falls short of fully living up to the expectations with unintuitive gameplay segments, anti-climatic choices and some poorly developed characters that don't fully relate to players.
