Abiotic Factor is a standout example of the survival game genre with plenty of player freedom and a killer blend of dark humor and silly hijinks.
This short jaunt through a haunted mansion leads you through entertaining puzzles, even if you're not quite sure why you're there, but will entice you further with a deeper mystery about the abuse of power in the entertainment industry.
Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is an adrenaline-pumping action platformer with killer pixel art and fast-paced gameplay. Levels are challenging -- especially in hard mode -- and bosses are not to be underestimated. Stages feel dynamic and always have something new to offer, so I was hooked from start to finish.
Tales of the Shire has a lot to enjoy for Lord of the Rings fans and cozy gamers alike, but several key problems hold the game back from its potential.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has most of the right ingredients of a fantastic action RPG, and adds its own refreshing takes on the Soulslike subgenre. The combat, accessible weapons and spells, punishing bosses, and stunning views are absolute standouts, but the story is slightly less desirable and at times, challenging to follow.
Donkey Kong Bananza is an incredible iteration and spin on the Odyssey formula creating another incredible first-party experience. The world destruction did rob some of the challenge of the world, but it was a smaller percentage of the time.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 is a faithful recreation of the original with all of the bells and whistles of a modern-day port. Smoother gameplay, new levels, and new goals make this a perfect THPS game for new and old fans alike.
It's cute in its minimalism, and remedial in its gameplay loop, yet despite promising to find that je ne sais quoi in the future, Islanders: New Shores doesn't have it now.
Persona5: The Phantom X is an ambitious spin-off, and a lot of it clicks with me. Narrative issues do plague the early hours of this game, and there are some kinks to iron out with UI and using a controller; nonetheless, it does an admirable job at creating a faithful, mobile-centric take on Persona 5's core combat, palaces, demon fusions and more.
System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is engrossing, deep, and atmospheric. It's a game that has aged marvelously, but even so, Nightdive's efforts in remastering this classic make it more accessible than ever before.
Ruffy and the Riverside's swapping mechanic is great fun, but I wish it would shut up and give me more organic opportunities to use that mechanic.
Rematch evokes the nostalgic feelings of the glorious FIFA Street days by revitalizing arcade football with casual and ranked multiplayer modes that allow players to delve in. While the developer has future content planned for the game, the game is being marred by a myriad of technical issues that impact gameplay and server stability, but they are being proactive with patch updates that hopefully add that luster before the season ends.
Tron: Catalyst has an interesting story and world that fans will love, but the combat and exploration come up short of being worthy of the Users.
A jack-of-all-trades roguelite that sacrifices depth to reach as many bases as possible, succeeding barely in some, and excelling in others.
FBC: Firebreak is an apparent attempt by the studio to try something new, and misses the mark. In a world where games like Left 4 Dead exist, it's hard to justify a reason to play this game. The gameplay loop is less than ideal, and the same can be said about the gunplay, which is a core feature. Many major story beats can easily be missed, and it's a shame.
MindsEye is a disaster in every sense of the word, and is going to do little more than become a guide in everything you should avoid in game design.
While The Alters is a narrative success, its survival gameplay is more of a side focus than the core of the title.
Atomfall's Wicked Isle DLC adds a few new toys for you to play with and an interesting miniboss fight, but it doesn't meaningfully innovate or improve on the base game.
Despite character events being the best they've ever been, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma fails to offer much depth after its opening hours.
Elden Ring Nightreign is a pleasant surprise. Its thrilling bosses, well-crafted character archetypes, and strong combat make it worth your time, but don't expect the usual FromSoftware lore standard.
