Critic Reviews for Tales of Xillia Remastered
Veteran fans don’t have a lot to show up for unless they’ve already been jonesing for a replay, but anyone who’s become a Tales fan in the years since have a new, easy way to play a game worth catching up on, and that’s worth celebrating.
Tales of Xillia Remastered is a wonderful showcase for why the Tales franchise has thrived for the past three decades. It's packed full of charm, strung together with incredible battles, and has me so excited for whichever entry in the series gets remastered next.
So, while there are elements of Tales of Xillia that don't quite measure up to today's standards, the core adventure remains rock solid, and the remaster brings some welcome additions and extras to the table. This PS3 RPG deserved a good re-release, and it's got one.
Tales of Xillia Remastered is a solid port of the original PS3 version with plenty of quality of life updates to go along with it.
I'm willing to look past my smaller form graphical quibbles of Tales of Xillia Remastered, as should you. The base Xillia content is notable for its incredible combat and emotional story, and the additional quality of life content makes the game more palatable than ever before. If you're wanting to relive Tales of Xillia or are down to experience it for the first time, Tales of Xillia Remastered will give you the nostalgia and emotional depth you need.
Tales of XIllia Remastered recaptures the magic of the original while including a few additions that could either improve or dilute it depending on whom you're asking. But it's definitely offers a adventure that could have you quite invested in how it all unfolds.
In summary, Tales of Xillia is not perfect, but it remains a deeply enjoyable and emotionally resonant JRPG. Its heartfelt storytelling, strong character development, and exciting combat continue to define what fans cherish about the Tales of series. While a few rough edges persist, the remaster successfully modernizes a classic, ensuring that both returning players and newcomers can appreciate its timeless qualities. Over a decade later, Tales of Xillia remains a testament to the enduring charm of traditional Japanese role-playing games.
Tales of Xillia is a good game in the saga and, although it didn't have the best return with this remaster, it stands out for its excellent gameplay, good performance, deep story, and great graphics. If you're not in a hurry to explore the world of Rieze Maxia, wait for a sale or look for other games in the series like Tales of Vesperia or Tales of Arise.
