Air Twister is a fun arcade feeling game directed by Yu Suzuki that has a great soundtrack and a decent gameplay loop. Though it can get very repetitive if you are trying to play for long spurts of time.
Football Manager 2024 doesn’t change much from last year’s game, but the changes it does make can greatly impact how you choose to play. Ultimately, it gives you the tools to live out your fantasy more than ever, making it a must-play for series fans.
UFC 5 is a good game, but the move to a new engine isn't as revolutionary as it has been in the past for other EA franchises. Sure, it looks and sounds better, but I could never escape the feeling that I was just playing a nicer-looking UFC 4. If you have that game you don't need to buy this one, you'll enjoy your time all the same.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a good game, a solid outing for Spider-Man fans. However, there are some issues under the hood of this game that really need to be addressed in patches over time, or just let Insomniac do the Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales 2 that they really want to do instead of pushing them to keep doing Peter Parker Spider-Man stories that they clearly no longer want to do… I hope they make it up to Venom fans with some good DLC.
Super Mario Bros Wonder is the big leap that 2D Mario platformers needed. The updated visuals, the Wonder Flower levels, the improved level designs, the variety of new monsters, all of it lends to a great experience that will leave you screaming, "WONDERFUL!!!"
It may be too much of a step back for fans of the RPG-focused recent games. However, Assassin's Creed Mirage delivers an experience that successfully takes the series back to its stealth roots, finding its heart and soul again, which makes it a must-play for any traditional Assassin's Creed fans.
Milestone returns for another spin with Hot Wheels Unleashed – Turbocharged, which is just as fun and challenging as the first game. Only this time, there are tighter controls, so now you can't blame the game for your mishaps. For fans of Hot Wheels, there are plenty of cars and liveries to slap on them, and you won't even need to take them out of the box. Yep, it's like being a kid all over again, and that's what it's all about.
Slay the Princess is a must-play for fans of branching narratives. Choices have consequences, and how much horror you encounter falls to you. Along the way, enjoy the macabre visuals and audio. While the game can't put a bow on every decision, replaying for extra routes proves a royal pleasure. Turn down the lights, cozy up with a nice cup of tea (may I suggest blood orange?), and decide whether or not to commit regicide.
Mortal Kombat 1 brings the idea of a whole new universe into light with an amazing, but really fast-paced, story mode. However, the rest of the game feels like Mortal Kombat as a franchise has stagnated in terms of gameplay with nothing really innovating things outside of the cameo fighter system. Then we have the impending microtransaction additions that you know are coming, and I hate those with a passion.
Lords of the Fallen (2023) is finally here, despite a challenging development cycle, and it's a way better game than the original title. Everything that I had issues with the 2014 game has been addressed, and then some. Combat is fun, the world is beautiful, and I can't get enough of the unique way we can visit the world of the dead using a lamp. It really bugs me that the game on the PC has some slight performance issues that hold it back, and that's a shame. Still, Lords of the Fallen (2023) is a great Soulslike that fans of the genre need to play, despite a few flaws with the game.
El Paso, Elsewhere wears its influences on its sleeves, and while it doesn't reach the same highs set by Max Payne all those years ago, it more than makes up for it in its story and presentation.
Conrad Stevenson's Paranormal P.I. is a very thrilling time of investigating, and searching houses for ghosts with real ghost detecting technology. It makes you feel smart to figure out each individual ghost story but it doesn't always play the greatest.
Turn 10 Studios has taken what was already a decent simulator racer and improved on it in so many ways that it's impossible not to enjoy it as a car and racing fan. The attention to detail when it comes to the tracks, the cars, the mechanics, and even the performance. This trumps every previous effort, every prior Forza Motorsport game that Turn 10 has ever developed, and I'm sure that was the plan all along.
While Fort Solis might have seemed promising, the odd design choices, such as not being able to spring or run, coupled with QTEs that otherwise ruin the gameplay, sadly sabotages the game. This is a shame as the game features some lovely visuals thanks to Unreal Engine 5, a compelling narrative, and some amazing performances from industry veterans.
Fate/Samurai Remnant is a fantastic Musou game that adds more layers and mechanics to what it means to be a Musou game. It also has a story highly reminiscent of the other action-based Fate Series anime. Though, it does hurt that the games' performance suffers
Gunbrella is a beautifully animated, focused, and satisfying 2D-action title that delivers on its premise in spades. Gliding around with your Gunbrella as you blast away enemies never gets old, and while the game does suffer from a lack of challenge and minor readability issues, it's one of the most memorable and often funny titles of the year.
Silent Hope is an enjoyable and completely functional action RPG that doesn't take itself too seriously. The combat loop is fun, and there are multiple class to try out, and there's something that everyone will enjoy. There's plenty to do outside of the combat and questing, such as cooking and crafting. The game doesn't reinvent the game, but it's a fun game to pick up and play in chucks and has a nice overall challenge.
FC 24 is a familiar game that once again focuses on evolution over revolution. It makes some smart tweaks and additions to existing modes but they still feel mostly the same. The game looks and feels better than ever but when you aren't in control the AI often lets you down.
Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless is a great return to form for one of the most obnoxiously fun tactic based RPGS. If you were worried on the direction of the series based on Disgaea 6, take pleasure in knowing Disgaea 7 is a great addition to the beloved titles of old.
I am giving Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask DLC 4.5 stars solely because I did list a couple of glitches and things that made the Tera Raids and catching Pokemon a bit tricky. Otherwise, I couldn't have any complaints about this game, and I am truly obsessed with it.
